4th of July Pancakes & Meeting The Locals
Apparently, every 4th of July the local historical society holds a pancake breakfast as a fundraiser... and it's supposed to be a big deal with the town and a good way to get out and really meet folks. As I've only been here for 2 weeks, I really need to start meeting folks and devloping new social connections. So far, I've made 2 friends in Stone Mountain (Atlanta) and 3 more friendly acquaintances. Not a bad start, but it could be better.
So, later this morning, the hubby and I are going to head out for the event and "get our social on." I can't eat pancakes due to grains (with the exception of white rice) being a rosacea trigger for me... but I can eat fruit, drink coffee, and say hello.
I've been trying really hard to find a group I can become involved with, but it's not been easy. Even trying to line up volunteer gigs seems to be something of a challenge here, and I'm not sure why. It's definitely been a tough nut to crack from the outset, but I'm a friendly, outgoing, and decidedly stubborn person who is determined to crack it.
Happy 4th to all those who celebrate! Keep your pets indoors and safe!

I love pancakes. Why would it be hard to find volunteer job?
Is it very small town?
You're in the south now. Even though I was born in TN and lived in MS it's not easy. I'm in SC now and it's even harder for me to make friends. I've been in this town since 89. I don't even try anymore.
Hello, Tired... yup the town itself is small... but lately it seems like no one has gotten back to me with my inquiries, or they just aren't sure what volunteer opportunities there are in the first place. But, during the breakfast yesterday, I did get to talk to a lot of folks and hopefully made some headway on this.
WOW, Trisha... thanks for sharing that honesty with me. I'd always heard of "southern hospitality," so I was kind of hoping for a very warm and super open reception... but it's been slow to start. I think I made real progress yesterday. Everyone at the breakfast seemed super nice and very interesting. The conversations flowed easily, and they seemed to be keen on volunteers, although nothing specific yet.
Still waiting to hear back from the folks I reached out to on the 4th about volunteering... maybe things are slowed down by the holiday this week *sigh*
