Cake
Opened my refrigerator this morning to get out eggs to make my son's birthday cake only to find the girlfriend's cake sitting there not even touched. Sigh. We are going to have a lot of cake. And of course we both made the same one as it is his favorite. No idea what I should do so making his cake. Not being able to make one would just add a whole new layer of hurt to this, but really don't know what to do.

that seems like an awkward situation..to have 2 of the same cake.Maybe just make the cake if it means alot to you and then share a laugh or smile with everyone and say we have PLENTY of cake!...I hope it goes well and best wishes for the visit,if they are coming over...hugsxx
The girlfriend and I realized we were making the same cake on Thursday. Since she was going to be with him for his birthday on Friday and he agreed to come to our house on Sunday for cake and dinner we decided it would be ok (although not really) that we make the same cake. But they didn\'t eat any of it last night. (They are both at my house sleeping as they said it was too far to drive home last night. They celebrations his birthday in the town I live in, not hers or his, then didn\'t come over, just at 1am to sleep).
thats a tough situation.i would just make the cake and try to be pleasnat and happy if possible around them.It can be hard and I dont like to be fake but it might make for a better day. she should be expecting the cake then although it will be awkward.i hope you have a great visit and I\'m sorry they hurt your feelings..:( ..
You can never have too much birthday cake! Plus I bet your cake is WAY better :)
Thanks for the positive thoughts. They ended up not eating her cake and bringing back to my house. I was cooking my cake and frosting it when they decided to eat hers. It was really strange and awkward, but Sunday night after we had eaten half my cake, my son asked to take the rest of it home. He still had more than half her cake and he lives alone. So guess it was ok to have two. I had just put it in the refrigerator and figured we would eat the rest of it, but he said he wanted it.
Overall the visit went ok. I asked what they did on his birthday, and found out they actually went for a walk on the walking trail that is literally across the street from the house. So I did tell him I thought they might stop by since they were that close and that his girlfriend had mention they might. Also that I really missed seeing him on his birthday, but I tried to keep it light when I said it, no tears or angry voice and then I changed the subject to something pleasant and never brought it up again.
My middle son accused me of laying a major guilt trip on his brother, but I asked him if I should tell him that I cried for hours and that I was up half the night unable to sleep because he didn\'t love me enough to want to see me on his birthday or if I should keep my mouth shut like my mother did and complain about it loudly to everyone else year after year when it keeps happening because I never mention it upsets me so he never knows.
He thought about it a minute or two and then said yeah he thought I probably handled it right.
