Grime
Underneath all the blackness All the dirt and grime There is something beautiful Something we’ve lost over time Smothered in evil In hate and deceit Our decency, our love We suckle at the teat We hope for revival We beg for salvation From a god that lives Only in our imagination We blame a devil that isn’t there We reach out to a god that doesn’t care We look inside ourselves and see nothing Our hearts, they lie bare We don’t see ourselves as we truly are Magnificent creatures, able to change We don’t want that responsibility So instead we pray We pretend we’re righteous We’re serving our master We’re destined for Heaven To live happily ever after We ask him to cleanse us To forgive us our sins To make us whole again To make us his We run no bath We scrub away no grime Instead relying on god To make us shine We dirty ourselves We roll around in our own filth We breathe our own stink And we feel no guilt We blame a devil that isn’t there We reach out to a god that doesn’t care We look inside ourselves and see nothing Our hearts, they lie bare
