Lately I've been feeling really really bad about something. One of my friends, she calls me her best friend, has been driving me nuts pretty much this whole year. She was the first friend I made at University when I came here last year, not knowing a single soul. Her and I got really close last year, and I started even calling her my best friend (which is something I've never had before). But she is an extremely overbearing personality, and she gets to be way too much to handle at times. I'm finding her far more obnoxious, loud, and annoying this year than she was before. She always says anything and everything that goes through her mind, no matter how socially inappropriate. It's so bad that I don't ever want to introduce her to new people anymore, because she always makes horrible impressions on people. Problem is though, the first impressions she makes aren't even inaccurate! She is a really hard person to like. She's extremely overbearing, loud, opinionated (but usually has very little grounds to root her opinion in), and argumentative. She thinks she has to be the centre of attention all the time. She also seems to think that brand new people want to know every detail about her sex life (which absolutely disgusts me), her family, and her life in general, and she never provides a censored version of her life story to new people. She also is really bad for jumping down on people as soon as they state any opinions that are contrary to her own, without letting them explain why they feel the way they do. But if someone doesn't let her explain (even tho her explanations are typically nothing more than "because that's what I said!") she'll go ape shit on them. The first three times she met the guy that I am sort of seeing right now she jumped down his throat for no reason at all. The first time she wanted to listen to a particular song, so she put it on and said we all had to listen.. well we started talking during the song (cuz it was rap.. which no one that was present likes, except for her). She started telling him that he was supposed to listen to the song because she wanted him to hear the words (which were about a girl that got deported or something). Somehow it turned into her yelling at him for being a capitalist pig (a term that, sadly, she doesn't even understand..) The next 2 times she met him the same type fo thing went down. Needlesss to say, he can't stand her. She has made similar types of impressions on lots of other people too. And then when she finds out that people don't like her she gets all pissed off and says that they're immature and just can't handle someone so blunt and honest. She's also driving me nuts when it comes to school. I'm her mom when it comes to school. I'm the one always making sure that she is on top of her reading ands tudying. I'm always pushing her to do well in school, but I want to give up because it's been 3 semesters and she still doesn't seem to care about school. She skips lectures all the time, hardly studies, and then whenever the shit hits the fan she makes some kind of excuse to get herself out of the hole she dug. Her moms health is up and down (she has breat cancer in remission). So whenever she gets a bad grade she uses her mom as an excuse, and I hate that! She shouldn't be taking advantage of her moms health like that. But every time she gets a bad grade back she sends a sappy email to the prof explaining "her situation" - looking for sympathy. Last semester she failed an exam, horribly. And the only reasons she failed is because she never went to lecture and she didn't read anything til the day before the exam (despite my constant nagging). MONTHS later, when she realized that it brought her GPA down so far that it kept her on academic probation, she thought back to when the exam was and remembered that her mom had had a doctors appointment that week. So she actually called the doctor and begged for a note so she could go get her grade changed!!!! I am getting really tired of encouraging her and encouraging her and her never fucking doing anything for herself. I'm just sick of her in general, and I hate it. I really do care about this girl, and when she's not being moody and self-centred she is a lot of fun to hang out with.. but 99% of the time when she is around I am just waiting for her to leave...

Seems it might be time to take some time out from each other and see how you both feel, just because we care about someone doesn\'t mean that they are necessarily good for us. I wish you luck with this.
