Things are no better. David still refuses to do homework. Paul went to school today and sat in on two classes. David does not even bother to take notes. Paul talked with teachers and vice principal and guidance counselor. We have a parent meeting on 10/14 with team of teachers to come up with a plan. He still talks to us and looks at us like "how dare you tell me what to do." I looked into the military school. No doubt in my mind they would turn him around. After seeing the difference in him at karate, no doubt that 24/7 regimen and getting him into that environment would benefit him greatly. Wonderful school but $36k per year. I am all for it. Paul refuses to spend the money. Paul's father worked 3 jobs and his mother worked full time (and this was years ago when this was unheard of) to pay for him to go to private college prep Catholic boys school in Jersey City. I told him this AM that he was selfish. He says "yes I am." End of discussion. Phone calls at work, stress, just going crazy. Also, Kona now has crystals in her urine and has to permanently be on prescription dog food as she is going to get kidney stones and kidney problems. $61 for a bag of dog food. Cannot get anywhere else but from vet. I love my little girl. She is my true joy in life and basically my calm at this point. It is what it is. But Paul gripes over the money. Thank God I am still allowed to give her a dog biscuit or 2. I am so overwhelmed at this point. Failure is obviously not an option. Trying to take all of this one day at a time. I feel so guilty. I love my son but right now, I don't like him. Plain and simple. I don't like his behavior, his attitude. I look at him and I just want to walk in the other room. I don't want to talk to him. I don't want to spend time with him. I dread anything that comes out of his mouth. My mom says I have to get out of the negative. There is too much negative energy here. How do I turn this all around? I can't make David want to do his work. I can't make him like school. I can't make him pay attention. Paul is right now at the doctor's to get a recommendation for a psychiatrist/psychologist for depression. I have been having occasional anxiety attacks lately, especially while driving. I guess my brain starts going and then I get dizzy spells and a feeling like I am not getting enough oxygen and feel like I am going to pass out. Not cool to have this happen while driving. It is rare to happen anywhere else but it has happened elsewhere. I have to start writing down when it happens and what leads up to it. It wasn't too bad today. Was able to "talk" myself down before I had to pull over. Bridges and heights before were the trigger. But have noticed, like today, that sometimes just sitting at a red light for a few minutes (that anticipation or whatever) can sometimes trigger it. Sometimes sipping water helps. So I have been trying to keep water with me in the car. And our annual benefits election is coming up and I can kiss what ever raise I get goodbye with the increase that comes out of my paycheck. Plus, I am hearing there is a new $3,000 deductible. Like I said, kiss my raise goodbye. I am praying this break will help me put my head back on. I am also praying that Paul and David don't kill each other while I am gone. OMG! I can hear it now. Paul calling me constantly at my Dad's to tell me what my son did. My son then calling me to tell me what Paul did. Trying not to think about it before it happens. But if it is like that, no sense in going! I am determined to read my new book to try to change ME. I can't change them. I know this. This is where my frustration lies. How do you accept the unacceptable?

I feel so bad, wish I could help or be a shoulder for you close by. It\'s like when does it end, you do good all the time and for all this to happen, it\'s not fair. I would have already lost it but I guess when your in any situation it has to be taken care of and I think you are holding everyone together right now. What would they do without you. I think with his age, it\'s too late to change unless in some type of strict/dicipline environment. I wouldn\'t know what to do but it would be a thought I\'m sure. Hang in there. Stay strong and don\'t give up. I know things will get better with time! Bet you hate hearing that. I try to stay positive and think what all this has done - made me a better person! Hope you get a break and they don\'t bother you on your trip if you get to go. I\'m ready, I\'d love to go somewhere very soon!!! Wish you the best and take care of that Kona, poor thing.
Wow, hun, I always thought having just one instead of three would make everything all better...obviously not. You are right about not being able to MAKE David, or Paul, do ANYTHING. We are all only responsible for our own behavior. Still, as a parent, I know how awful it feels when your kids are acting this way and you wonder \"What the HELL did I do wrong?? How could ANYBODY parent this child successfully?! WHAT makes my kid think he could get away with talking me like that???\" etc, etc...
I have often, and I mean, OFTEN, felt like I don\'t like my daughter anymore, and she\'s my own flesh and blood, not adopted! I have sometimes even wondered if I still LOVED her. Yes, that is the God\'s honest truth, as horrible as that sounds. But when they make your life so friggin\' miserable, how else are you supposed to feel? Parenthood \"wasn\'t supposed to be like this!\"
I know I\'ve probably mentioned this link before, but you HAVE to contact Kirk Martin at CelebrateCalm.com. He is soooo wonderful, and understanding, and full of truly HELPFUL advice for kids like ours, as well as for our spouses and our own sanity...please, try it, hun.
As far as Paul being selfish goes, IMHO, I don\'t think he\'s really being selfish. That is a LOT of money, and you have both already sacrificed so much for this boy. Paul is probably trying to take care of himSELF a little here now, holding on to some of his (your BOTH) hard-earned money, which is important if he is to keep on giving (emotionally) to your family. He may have just agreed with you this morning about his being selfish to avoid an argument about it. It wouldn\'t be good for any of you if you both continued to give and give and give EVERYTHING to and for this impossible child. Even DAVID would not benefit from having you sacrifice for him in EVERY way...he will come to expect and take it for granted, if he hasnt\' already.
I think you too, need to take some ME time. Go get a massage to help relieve all of that tension. Do something that YOU enjoy, just for the sheer enjoyment of it! It\'s not a cure-all, but you can\'t keep giving on empty, hun.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I understand COMPLETELY!
OMG I can\'t even image othe stress you must be having. Have you gone to a Dr and gotten anything for stress? You need to take care of YOU! I hear about David and Hubby going to DR. but what about you?
I am worried about you....Love you
First of all thank you for the comments on my journal and such. Now to you. I have a 10 yr old son and I can\'t imagine the stress you are under. Luckily I was able to have a son and raise him from little up. He is still difficult about homework with me, but my hubby can usually set him straight for me. How awful for you!!! Take care of yourself or you cant take care of David. I am glad you will be able to get away for some well deserved R&R with your Dad. I don\'t know the answer to the military school, but I agree with debiwebby that the more you give the more he will take it for granted. He already has abandonment issues and I fell it would make things worse between the 3 of you. Karate is wonderful however and maybe the meds will help. Keep with the disipline. And taske care of yourself. Get back to the Y if possible. It will relieve stress. Be careful driving. See a dr about stress like JoyceMarilyn suggested. Above all love your son, hubby and yourself. - Julie
