My friend (N) was in a motorcycle accident. I had written a previous post re: N as she had given a baby girl up for adoption years ago and was always hoping that her daughter would contact her. Anyway, N was hurt pretty bad. She was on her way home from work and a woman turned in front of her and she hit the car. I guess she was thrown from the motorcycle and her leg is pretty screwed up. Originally I offered to let N live with me for a few weeks when she got out of the hospital. She has motorcycle insurance but no personal injury coverage. She has no medical insurance. And I thought I had a couple of weeks to clean up my spare bedroom and talk my husband into it. I have been under a lot of stress lately, but in a way, something like this makes me count my blessings. I have a 1 story ranch, and she has a split level and lives alone. And her home is a mess. Well, she gave me her keys and asked me to go and pick up a few things. I did not realize just how bad things were there. There was probably 25-30 bags of trash in the kitchen and dining room. I know she has not had a washer and dryer or hot water for over 7 years. (She microwaves water to heat it up to clean herself.) I knew she had a termite problem and a mold problem. OMG! I had no idea just how bad things really were. And she just refuses to do ANYTHING for herself. And now she is out of work and has no money. And everyone says to me that if she moves in with me, I will 100% take care of her- wait on her, meals, laundry, clean the commode (no way), etc. And this is a committment now of months, not weeks. And also taking her to doctor's appointments. She has nothing. she has two brothers she does not talk to. No other family. No other friends. And the hospital keeps calling because now they want to release her tomorrow and she has no where to go. And the house is so bad. Mold everywhere, dirt, trash, cobwebs, etc. And I am so scared that if she comes here, she will never leave. Her own home should be condemned. And I feel so guilty because I can't do it. She would never leave. And I would be stuck taking care of her forever. She is only 60 but just does not take care of herself. I feel there is some major depression there from before the accident.
