Well David got his report card from school. To say I am disappointed is mild. If I had a sentence to describe his school year this year it would be: minimal effort, whatever it takes to get by, who cares. I am extremely frustrated. Taking away tv, threats, pleading, support, going to school with multiple meetings with teachers, principal, counselor- nothing works. Weekly counseling and tutoring at Huntington Learning Center and his grades have still dropped. Love & Logic Learning parenting class says that he has to own his own problems. I just don't know how to motivate him to want to try harder and I hate being the bad guy all of the time. I know for a fact how smart he is and know he is not anywhere near his potential. He has had multiple problems with fighting at school. I hate medicating him on Adderall and increasing it every time there is a problem. I know it helps (he has severe ADHD). But that doesn't help my guilt over having to medicate him in the first place. He is a black belt in karate and the medication runs out before class and he does wonderfully. I watch him succeed when he wants. I have tried money bribes, praise, etc. Again, he just could care less, or even worse, hates school. I just see him ruining his future and being the helicopter mom who hovers over my child, can't help feeling I need to do something. I wish I could pull him from public school and put him in private school.
