Sunday, July 06, 2008 – 10:35 A.M. Luck was with me yesterday. I did have a ride to my sister’s house. The driver even managed to pick me up right on “the dot.” Going home was a slightly different matter. Although my ride did get there, it arrived half an hour early. I guess it was one of those get there early or not at all kind of things. By the time I left here, my automatic door opener was still not working properly, so the driver closed the door for me, but that meant I had to leave the door unlocked or I would not have been able to get back inside once I got home. Since no one stole anything while I was gone, either the neighbors are very honest or they just were not aware that the door was unlocked. When I got to my sister’s house, there was a slight hitch – she had gone somewhere and the door was locked. The good thing was that the garage door was open. Since it was not raining, I sat there until she returned. With the exception of birthday gifts for my great-nephew and my sister’s son-in-law, it just seemed like a regular family gathering. All twelve of us ate at two tables that were pushed together, so that it looked like one long table. It was a nice dinner, and although the meat was edible, I would like to have known exactly what it was that I was eating. On the other hand, maybe it was better that I did not know. As luck would have it, I wound up sitting next to my three-year-old great-niece. The only thing she would eat was bananas. My great-nephew did not like cake, so desert consisted of ice cream. Each person then had a choice of various toppings: chocolate sauce, cherries, marshmallows, and sprinkles. My three-year-old great-niece went into a loud crying rage saying that her ice cream was not as “beautiful” as everyone else’s was. After nearly ten minutes of non-stop crying and wailing, we learned that she was upset because no one had taken a picture of her desert. Her mother quickly produced a camera, snapped some pictures, and we finally had some peace. It was at that point when my ride pulled up to the house. To my relief, it was not a minute too soon. The ride home was uneventful. My driver helped me into my apartment. After I got up this morning, my two CNAs took a hammer that my sister had loaned me, and tried repairing my door. A few hard whacks here and there, and my door appears to be functioning properly again. Today, I intend on finishing reading a mystery book, and watching an Indy car Race. I hope it will be a nice, quiet day. Quotes for Success” “Your successes and happiness are forgiven you only if you generously consent to share them.” Albert Camus
