Tuesday, June 10, 2008 -- 3:10 PM I have just returned from my "monthly" visit to my doctor's office. We discussed several things, including the medication that I had problems getting last week. He made some phone calls, and I am hopeful that everything is cleared up. I explained to my doctor's nurse, and then to him, about the high level of pain I have been having in my back. He has given me another prescription for physical therapy, which will put more of an emphasis on my back and spine, rather than my legs. I was told that I had severe scoliosis, and increasing back pain. Because this is therapy for a different reason, my insurance should cover it. That takes a lot of worry off of my mind. Before leaving my doctor's office, I told him that I needed to be weighed (it has only been five years since I was last weighed) in order to keep some sort of record, in case I start getting too much weight. On the floors above his office is a hospital for acute care. Although my doctor is not connected the hospital, he managed to make arrangements with one of his associates and a couple of nurses, to take me to the hospital section and then get weighed while I was sitting in my wheelchair. They took me out of my chair and weighed my chair by itself. From now on, whenever I need to get weighed, all they have to do is weigh me while I am sitting in my wheelchair. Any number of pounds above what the chair weighs will be my weight. Can you believe that it took five years to figure out the solution? This morning, I received an unexpected phone call from Herve, the CNA I had with my former home health care agency. (That agency had two offices -- North and South.) He was "excited" because the head of the South office (which was the one I was with) had been fired, and the nurse (Laura) with whom I have been very close to, even throughout the past year, has been promoted. She is now in charge of the South office. Herve wants me to go back to that agency. He seems to have some type of "plan" whereby I keep dropping hints to Laura that I would like to return to that company. He figures that after a while, she will contact made to see if I really do want to return there. Even if she does contact me, I am not entirely sure about what I want to do at this time. If I leave this agency, I am determined to find one that will provide very good care for me. I am not sure that agency can live up to my expectations even though I was with it once before now. I need to give this a lot of serious thought. Quotes for Success: “Yielding is sometimes the best way of succeeding.” Anonymous

Jim,
I\'m still amazed at all the hoops you have to jump through for simple things, like getting weighed or like getting a pet or getting to an appointment. I hope those struggles can lift soon. Things like that shouldn\'t be so hard because they don\'t HAVE to be.
I\'m glad you will be getting more physical therapy. I think non-sexual touch can be very healing. I hope that it not only relieves your physical discomfort but also provides some emotional healing as well.
Your friend,
Sam
I hope the physical therapy gives you some relief from the pain you\'re dealing with...and thank goodness it will be covered.
You really do have to deal wiht a lot of bureaucratic red tape, don\'t you? Gah. I wish life didn\'t have to be so complicated sometimes. It does seem like everything is an uphill battle sometimes. *hug*
As always, you preserver while using solid, balanced problem solving ability.
Admirable.
You make wise decisions concerning your health.
You will process this new agency situation in a day or so.
