Tuesday, May 27, 2008 -- 11:05 AM   Yesterday afternoon, I went to have dinner with my sister and her family. Where young children are involved, there is a lot of noise and chaos. I am getting too old to put up with all of that.   The dinner was okay, but not spectacular. Let's see, there was a choice of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, and tossed salad. For dessert, someone had made a lemon cake with lemon meringue icing. (The icing was much better than the cake.) I am not sure whether the cake was made by my sister, her daughter, or her daughter-in-law. I ate some, and it tasted good. Since it did not kill me, I guess it does not matter who made it.   After dinner, there was quite a mix-up about who was going home, and about what time each person was leaving. When all that was straightened out and all of my sister's children had left, I was just sitting back and starting to talk with my sister, when my ride showed up an hour early. To say that I was upset would be the understatement of the year.   With my luck, I happened to have a new driver. She did not have any idea of where I lived or how to get there. I had to give her directions all the way. Even with my help, she wound up making some U-turns.   When my sister was visiting me Saturday, she noticed that two of my floor lamps were not working. Being the kind of person that she is, she went out Sunday and bought me two new ones. Yesterday she gave me the bill for them. When I looked at it, I almost choked. I gave her a check, and asked her to bring the lamps to my apartment during the week. I also asked her to be sure to bring the receipt for the lamps in case one or both of them did not work.   She also noticed that my wristwatch was not working, so she took it to a store to get a new battery for it. As it turned out, it did not need a new battery, and the wristwatch could not be repaired. (I have wanted to get a new wristwatch ever since my brother gave me this one.) My sister wanted to go out and buy a new watch for me, but I did not trust her to pick one out that I would like. I told her I would do that myself over the Internet, which I did after I got home last night.   Last week, I received a bunch of government documents for me to fill out, so that I can continue receiving benefits. I have everything needed except for a proof of income letter from the Social Security Administration. There is not enough time for me to request, and get, that information through the mail, so I have arranged to go to the local Social Security office in Denver after I get done with my physical therapy on Thursday. This week is turning out to be busier than I thought would be the case.   My Personal Care Provider returned here this morning from a short vacation. If she had been gone much longer, I would have come to blows with the head of staffing who somehow got to bring the dinner Sunday evening. I did not want to get her in trouble, so I did not report. I decided that it would not hurt me to lose one or two pounds anyway.   Quotes for Success:   “Part of success is preparation on purpose.” Jim Rohn
