Tuesday, May 6, 2008 -- Late-Night Edition   Even though I went to see my doctor this morning, I am not feeling well tonight. I came down with something around three o'clock, and have been sick ever since then. With the possibility lingering in my mind that I may not be up to doing much of anything tomorrow, I decided to write a short recap of events that occurred today.   My doctor's visit went well. He looked at my injured foot, which is still quite swollen, then looked at the medication my orthopedic surgeon had given me, and said that it is all right for me to take it. I told him that I would be seeing my physical therapist twice a week, for another eight weeks. He approved of that. He also agreed that I should go back to the place where I had both the seat and back of my wheelchair custom made, and have them check it out to see if any of it had been bent out of shape because of my accident. He said that could be causing a lot of the pain in my back.   After we got the main things taken care of, I jokingly asked him if he had ever heard of service/companion dogs. To my surprise, he said he was quite familiar with them. He was able to think of two of his patients who had them. I told him I was thinking about trying to get one, but I kept running into different problems. He said he thought that it was a wonderful idea, and that I should try to get a dog. He called his social worker who agreed to help me with this. She was busy then, but I was assured that she would call me at home.   As I waited outside for my ride to pick me up, the social worker somehow "magically" appeared at my side. We talked about the fact that I was interested in getting a dog, and she said many of their patients had them at the office all the time. She also agreed to work with me in getting one. I told her that I had a lengthy application from one agency, and that I would e-mail it to her. She has worked with me several times in the past, and has always managed to somehow get whatever I needed. I am cautiously optimistic that will be the situation here.   The day went well until I got back home and started feeling ill. At almost the same time that began, I felt a panic attack oncoming. My head felt as if it was burning with fire. I sat in front of a fan to try and cool down, and almost immediately fell to sleep for two hours. The panic attack was gone by then, but I still feel bad tonight. If I do not feel better by morning, I am going to have to postpone some appointments.
