Thursday, April 17, 2008 -- 10:05 AM Later this afternoon, I am going to see my orthopedic surgeon. I am not entirely happy about this, but since I am still having pain resulting from the accident I had in December, I do not have much of a choice. The pain, alone, is bad enough, but during the past four months, it has now expanded into my back. I am not too keen about seeing any orthopedic surgeons. I have always been uncomfortable around doctors ever since I was a child. That is because when I was growing up, I had thirteen operations, all of which were designed with the idea in mind that they would enable me to walk someday. Nothing ever seemed to work out quite right, and those hopes (or wishful thinking) never came to be. Nowadays, whenever I hear the word "surgeon," my mind turns to images of scalpels, operating tables, anesthesia, and months of pain. If it were not for the pain I continue to have today, I would not even be going to see this surgeon. My sister is going to meet me at the doctor's office. She seems to believe that when going to see a doctor about something very important, two heads are better than one. She feels that each of us may come up with questions that the other one may not have thought about asking. I still have the urinary tract infection (UTI) that began Tuesday. My doctor has been notified about the situation. He wants me to "pump down" large quantities of water every day.
