Monday, January 14, 2008 -- 7:55 PM   Last week I was sick with what I thought was either a cold or the beginning of the flu.  By Friday evening, I had a very bad sore throat.  When I woke up Saturday morning, I had a temperature of 102° and a lot of pain in my back.   I called for an ambulance to take me to the hospital.  I was placed in a cubicle in the emergency room as a doctor and several nurses came in to examine me.  They ruled out various things, took some blood from me, and started an IV.  A short while later they told me that I had a bad kidney infection.    A nurse came to inject two different types of narcotics into my IV, and said that if I felt like sleeping to go ahead and do so.  I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew, when I opened my eyes I saw that my sister was standing beside me.  My family had apparently been notified when the ambulance took me to the hospital.  That was just as well because I was so sick that I did not seem to know what was happening.  I continued to feel that way until sometime today.   My back is still hurting quite a lot tonight.  I have to remember that the doctor told me it might take up to two weeks for the infection to go away.  Tomorrow I am seeing my doctor at 9 AM.   Something happened last night, which was almost as bad as my getting sick.  One of my CNAs stopped by here at seven o'clock and offered to put me in bed.  I took her up on her offer since I was not feeling very well.  I did not realize until after she had gotten started working with me that she had been drinking and was quite drunk.  She did a lot of things incorrectly and even wound up breaking one of my lamps.   When my CNAs came in this morning, they looked at me and became angry at the way I had been left in bed the previous night.  After leaving here this morning, they went to their office and they reported on my condition as they had found me.  I received a call from the office informing me that the CNA who put me to bed last night had been taken off my case because of her behavior.  I called back later this afternoon to see who would be putting me to bed tonight and getting me up tomorrow.  While waiting for this information, the head of the agency came on the line and wanted to know how I was doing.  She also informed me that they were conducting an investigation into the events that occurred last night.  It is hard for me to believe this is the same woman I have been having problems with for so many weeks.   In addition to the CNA being replaced, I am also having a change in personal care providers, as well as a nurse.  I felt that if I was going to have one person replaced, I might as well go ahead and get the other people replaced at the same time.   I did not see my psychologist last week because of my illness.  She did send me an e-mail today asking how I was doing, and telling me to give her a call whenever I felt like continuing my therapy with her.  I was unable to attend my Relapse Prevention Group session tonight because my doctors had told me to rest for at least one week before doing much of anything.  If the head of the group has any problem with this, I can always turn to my social worker for some help.  I do not think it will come to that.
