Friday, June 29, 2007 7:25 AM   My nurse finally showed up last night.  It was 6:15 -- just a mere 10 hours later than I thought she was going to be.  I guess it could have been worse. It was a recertification day for her -- or for me, depending upon your point of view.  That meant she gave me a more detailed examination than usual.  Things went well until she said my heart seemed to be beating faster than normal, but she was not worried about that.  Then I told her that I had not been feeling too well lately.  She asked what was wrong, and when I said I did not know how to explain it, she said to go ahead and give it a shot.  I said I had felt funny in my chest, and it seemed as though every now and then, my heart started beating fast, and at times, I felt like there was some type of jump in it.  She said she thought she knew exactly what it was -- something called "Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia PAT." She said it was something connected to the heart and the way it beat, but I should not worry about it unless I started fainting or passing out.  After reading about it on some of the websites, I began understanding it better.  I will continue worrying about it to a certain extent, but not as much as I did before I said something to my nurse. This morning I am going to see my psychiatrist.  I expect him to be somewhat upset when I tell him that I did not use the antidepressant that he had given me.  However, since my regular physician said it would have been dangerous, I do not really care what the psychiatrist thinks.  As I have said many times before today, "He is a quack." Good morning JimK, I am A nurse of 20 yrs. PAT is something a lot of people live with (some say about 40% of the population) and it is usually a response to a stressor. (you have stress in your life?). I have had it before and it goes away and is not fatal. Your heart speeds up and then the rate drops off. Kinda like that fight or flight response. When I have it I do relaxation stuff and that seems to take care of it. So try not to worry about it too much.
And good luck with your quack psych doctor. Love ya Tcat

Hi tcat! Do I have stress in my life??? Well, there are times when if I didn\'t have stress, I\'d have nothing at all. You reduced a lot of it today by saying that PAT is not fatal! Guess I\'ll have to find something else to worry about.

The trip to see the \"quack\" psych doctor was weird. I was treated like visiting royalty even after I kind of got on both him and the clinic for not being able to treat people with PTSD! He even smiled and congratulated me on finding a way to get my meds paid for by switching to another prescription drug plan. Jim
