8:45 A.M.

Yesterday morning, a man was supposed to come to my apartment and make several repairs on my wheelchair. He was supposed to be here at 9:30. At 11 someone called from his office and asked if he was here yet. I said no. They said they would call back later, but he was on the way. He didn't arrive until almost noon. That's how the day started. It wasn't a good omen. The day went downhill from there.

As it turned out the repair man turned out not to be a repair man at all. His main job was to drop off and set up new wheelchairs for people who just bought them.

He had a relatively long list of things to do for me, but he only accomplished one. And in doing that, he took one of the parts off of my old wheelchair and put it on the new one, which is sometimes known as jerry rigging.

Since the new chair has never been right from the day I got it, I had been told several weeks ago that there would be no charges for the repairs. However, after this man finished making his repairs he gave me a bill for $197. Actually there were two bills. I took both of them, and proceeded to write, This chair is completely unsatisfactory on each of them. I signed my name and dated it. I also refused to pay for anything, especially for the part that he took from my old chair, put on the new chair, and then tried to charge me for.

I told him I was very unhappy with the situation, and that I hoped we could come to some resolution before I was forced to bring a lawsuit against the company. He said he would pass the word along to his manager. After he left, my sister wanted to know what I thought would happen. I said we would be hearing from the company before the end of the day.

Less than two hours later I received a phone call from the manager of the company. She said she wanted to come see me, along with another person, and examine the wheelchair. They are supposed to be here this morning at 10 AM. My sister and I will be waiting at the front door to greet them!

I wrote a summary of the situation and sent it to a social worker who has been working with me. I said I felt as if I was being treated like a second-class citizen and that I resented it. I have yet to hear from her, but I'm sure I will later today -- or she will hear from me again!

For me, just getting through life on a day-to-day basis has been hard enough. I shouldnt have to be subjected to this kind of crap!

Im sorry that you are having a rough time with your chair! I have been on a mission lately to slow speeders in our school zone...
No return calls from the police
No return calls from the principal of the school
No return emails from the news station...
The list goes on, so I guess you could say that I have been having that same second class feeling too!
Keep on them and make them do their job! Thats just nuts!

Thanks for your encouragement. I\'m trying to get ready, but I really dislike confrontations, and think this could get nasty.
