This has been a day of frustration and anger. About a month ago, I got a new power wheelchair. Prior to it being ordered, a representative from the company where I was getting it, came to my apartment to get some measurements of my old chair and the maximum height the new chair could be, and still enable me to be seated at tables, desks, etc. As things turned out, that was pretty much a waste of time, since the new chair did not fit at anything. It was too tall. Theyve tried making some adjustments, but now insist that nothing can be done.

Today I spent most of the morning at another company, which had made a custom molded seat for me about three years ago. Even though this company had nothing to do with my new chair, it agreed to take a look and see what they thought it needed. The number of things they found wrong is too long to list here, but the main thing is that the chair is three inches too high, which is whats causing a lot of problems. They made a few adjustments, but said it was really up to the other company to do the rest.

I was told that the REAL problem is the chair itself: ITS NOT THE RIGHT SIZE! The woman working with me said that when I get a new chair, it should be more comfortable and work better than the previous one. This one doesn't. It should also let me have the same amount of functionality, if not more, then the old chair. This one doesn't, and for me, it is a step backwards.

Im supposed to get a summary of the work that was done, and suggestions as to what still need to be done. When I get this, I will hand deliver it to a social worker I know at my doctors office.

Tomorrow afternoon I will see my therapist. Im hoping shell be able to restore at least a little sanity to my life.

Sorry Jim, I know how awful that can be. I am friends and was a caretaker for 2 people in wheelchairs and both had the same issues. You have a right to be angry. It also seems like when (we) are down, everything goes wrong and sets us off even more (at least that\'s how I am). Trust all will be ok with the chair, and good luck at the therapists.....tell her how angry you are.
