Ok, so I went to my PCM today at the VA and told her about the extremely painful areas on my skin that feel like nerve pain but are on the surface only. And that everything that comes into contact with my skin feels like it's being shredded be shards of glass. She said that it is my nerves and it is the fibromyalgia. So she is starting me on neurontin and will later put me on lyrica. I'm already on effexor and don't know the effects of these other two drugs. She said that the neurontin will treat that painful shredding sensation I get.Also, I asked her about finding a physical therapist that is fibromyalgia friendly and she said she is looking into it and will get back to me. I also found out that I may be getting an IUD put in because my gynie wants me off the patch. I told them they should just tie my freakin tubes! I don't want kids, at least not of my own. They said that they won't since I have not had any. whatever!! Well I've had a freakin head ache all day, so i'm gonna take some fverfew and lay down. hope everyone's day is well and God bless!

Oh my dear...I\'m not trying to scare you, BUT...please be very careful while trying these drugs. They are very potent, and they can have some adverse side affects for some people.
I start with the neurontin. I noticed nothing at first. It took my daughter to tell me that it was as if she was talking to me and I wouldn\'t respond most of the time. In other words, I was physically there, but mentally absent. The lights were\'nt on. Then (without my maid knowing my daughter said anything) my maid Jean said almost the same thing. It was really spooky, because I didn\'t realize I was like that. A few year later, a friend of mine, shared with our Bible study group that she had her first grand mal seizure at the age of 45, and the doc put her on neurontin. She asked us to pray for her because she was having trouble taking the drug. Before she said that, I already knew just by her speech and her empty-headedness that she was on the drug. Also, my doc overdosed me on the drug, and I was on my way to the lab to get my level taken. While about half way there, I began to see quadruple. I pulled the car over and tried to decide what to do since I was eqal distance from home. I decided to go ahead and try to make it to the lab. By the time I got to the lab, I was shaking so badly, I couldn\'t sign in. They said I was as white as a ghost, and took me right away. I went to sit down and passed out. They quickly drew and tested my level, and it was off the charts. I was way overdosed. I guess it had somehow built up in my system.The overdose could have have been avoided, but the drug can cause weird things to happen to your brain and your speech.I take a drug called topomax that works well for my nerve pain. For me anyway, it doesn\'t seem to have any bad side effects that I\'ve noticed. It\'s really a headache medicine, but as with many drugs, they don\'t know why it helps with nerve pain but it does. It can also cause weight loss, so if you try it, make sure you\'re eating normal amounts of food.
Now on to lyrica. I saw an ad on TV for it, and it\'s the first real drug that is actually advertised for fibro. Their has been a lot of discussion both ways on it here on daily strenth. I tried it, and for me it was a miracal drug -I mean like my life would have been almost pain free if this had been discovered years ago. After I started the drug, however, Charlie kept asking me if I was okay. I said , yes, in fact great. Then he\'d ask me again. Then he asked me if I might have fogetten and taken too much of one of my drugs. I couldn\'t figure out why he kept asking me all these questions. Then 3 weeks ago, we went to Tulsa to see my daughter and son-in-law Ryan. Lisa said I sounded like I was drunk and had a low IQ, and was I taking a new drug? I told her about the lyrica, and I decided to not take one that night and none in the morning. Guess what?My speech was definately clearer, and so was my thinking. Rats! So I told Charlie that on a bad fibro day I would take it then only, but if the fibro wasn\'t too bad with my pain meds, I wouldn\'t take, plus I would always tell him if I was taking it. For me, that seems to work out the best. Why throw out the baby with the bath water? But I don\'t recomend ever driving on it.
So that my $5 worth. Let me know how you do. Ask Matthew or your Mom since we don\'t often see these things for ourselves.
hope your new meds work and your headaches go away. no i haven\'t taken magnesium...i\'ll getting insurance in less than 10 days so i\'ll get new docs here and see what meds they recommend.
I\'m so sorry you are having such a bad time right now with your health. My personal opinion is that the fight with Matthew helped bring it on, you got so stressed and upset that it knocked your system out of whack. Hopefully the meds will help you, but I hope they don\'t overload your system as you are fragile right now (no matter how tough you may be). I\'m praying for you...Love, Marlena
Have you tried nuvaring? I used it for a while. It\'s very low dose.
I know what you mean about the nerve pain. Last week I as vacuuming and DH was behind me. He touched my back ever so lightly so I didn\'t back into him. I didn\'t know he was there b/c the vacuum was so loud. So I start touching my back thinking that the pain was acting up. He was like, \"I just touched you\" It was a really strange sensation.
I hope you find a combo of meds that work.
please keep in touch and tell me how you get on with the neurontin (gabapentin) I will be starting it on Monday. too much to do over the weekend to start it right now. I too get that horrible nervy pain, its like the pain i get when I have a cold brewing, or a cold sore starting. I didnt know it was associated with fibro. people with diabetes get this too.
