Was at parents' house visiting. I was out on pass from my assisted living facility for the day (yesterday). Mom and I talked, she agreed that she and Dad would pay for me to have my own computer so I wouldn't have to bug other friends about using their's. I need one primarily for DS and keeping in touch with the rest of my support system. Most of them live here in town, but one lives in Dubai, so it's not like I can call her any old time I want. Plus I hate talking on the phone, I get too anxious about it and put off using the phone as much as possible. I do better w/ email, Facebook, or messaging. But it's hard w/out a cell phone. I have a landline, at least for the time being. My parents also decided to pay off the rest of my hospital bill after I paid more than half of it (psych hospital). I really appreciate it, but I'll be paying them back for the computer and the hospital bill. It's going to take forever to pay them back, they know that, but they are still doing it for me. They didn't have to. That's the "new electronic toy to program and play with" I was referring to in my status update.
I don't have any training, but I like to program computers, TV's, VCR's-for parents, DVD players, most electronics. That's what I did when I worked at Goodwill from '97 to '04. I've always been good at those things. When I was a kid, my parents had purchased their first color TV and it had a remote control that went with it. My parents were content just using the TV's buttons, but I got tired of the buttons, put batteries in the remote, programmed it and was running it. Parents were surprised it was that simple, they had thought something electrical had to be done to get the remote to work. I don't want to be mean to my parents, but one time my dad wondered where I got my brains from because they certainly weren't that smart. I finished with a 3.7GPA when graduated high school. Took 2 correspondence classes (TV/VCR Repair and Appliance Repair).;got A's for those, too.
I feel like a lot of my life was spent being a parent to my parents. My mom said that was the case. Things didn't always go well, Social Services got involved due to some abuse I won't get into here, I was almost taken from my family. So when I had my Competency Hearing in 2012 during psych hospital stay, the judge's ruling was that I couldn't return home. I can't work anymore because of a severe back injury and numerous psych disorders that got worse while I was on the job. And physical issues that make me basically "unemployable". So that's why I had to move back in with my parents in 2005. I'm going to stop talking now, I don't know if my friend's computer will "take" this entry or if it will erase it.
