UPDATE

Families of ADHD children,
I'm sorry I have not written anything in a while.  Life has been going on and my son with ADHD is now 12.  He has been on Adderall for the past few years, which is has been working fine, but with the same side effects of any other stimulate medication, mostly effecting his eating.
Last year I was talking with some friends that I had recently met, and we were talking about my son and his ADHD, and they asked if I had heard of neuro-feedback.   It is a method to teach self regulation of the brain.  I hadn't heard of it so I looked it up, then talked to my son's pediatrician, and she said that it would be worth a try, but at that time we decided to wait another year to give him a chance to mature a little more.
Well, now that he is a little more mature, and after discussing this procedure with my son, we contacted his pediatrician and she gave us a recommendation to the counseling clinic closest to us.
Last week during our first visit to the counseling clinic, the counselor asked many questions regarding my son's behavior while off his medication.  He then suggested that we use integrated listening therapy, and would rent us the equipment during this coming summer (www.integratedlistening.com).
He then hooked my son's head up to some wires, and used bio-feedback on him for 20 seconds.  Later that evening, my son announced that he is totally focused!  Bear in mind he had not been on any medication that day, and we could totally tell the difference in him.  Of course the therapy wore off, but after reading about this, it takes a lot of therapy sessions  for it to last forever.  So we are dedicating this summer to get this done before our son starts jr. high in the fall.
Tomorrow he will have his second session with the therapist, and I will try to remember to update you all on my son's progress.  So stay tuned.  Meanwhile, look up bio-feedback, neuro-feedback, and integrated listening.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
