Hi Everyone!
My Mom got out of the Hospital yesterday.  I wish they had kept her another day, as she was up throwing up all night the night before!  She was so weak she needed help dressing, but yes, they kicked her out.  The doc thought she was fine to leave.  I told them I hoped she was fine to leave, because if she wasn't, they would be receiving communication from my attorney!
I hate the way the insurance companies insist that people are kicked out of hospital beds if they are barely breathing (or so it seems to me!)  Back in the olden days, before the insurance companies took control of healthcare, people were actually admitted to hospitals for "rest" at times!!!  The financial powers now dictate who can be kicked out and when....what procedures can be done, and what not done.  Meanwhile, insurance company profits continue to soar...
Do I sound bitter?  I hate to sound like one of those sue-happy people  but I am just worried about my Mom I guess.  Something needs to be done to change healthcare in this country!!!!!!
I realize more and more that my Mom will not be with me forever....and I can hardly stand thinking about it.  I dont know how I will endure her passing when it comes!  All I can do is try to appreciate her while I can and remember that when I am feeling annoyed at something she might do or say . (sigh)
I sent her roses, gave her a card and a little angel figurine music box for Mother's Day.  She is so happy with anything I ever give her, and even gets teary over cards I send.  I love her so much.
Hope you are all enjoying time with your moms this weekend, and Happy Mother's day to all of you that are moms!

Yes, I agree with you. I was in hospital once and they had a rule, five days maximum. I was better on the 4th day, true but 5th day I could not walk out but still, I had to leave. I hate hospitals anyway and spent six weeks at home in bed rest and my dtr drove up from Calif to Oregon to care for me. Daughters, what would we do without them? So Dianne you are the one your mom loves and cherishes because you look out for her.

Hi Dianne..Hospitals are not the most healthy places to recover from any surgery these days as the spread of germs from on to another has grown. We have excellent health care ; but if you are not sick you go home. DAy surgeries happen more and more. again am glad because sometimes home recovery is faster less chance of infection. Also the agencies that have flourished over the years is growing for Home care in the HOme. Red Cross used to dominate most , not today. Having someone come in is paid here by Health care. Maybe 1 hour a day 3x\'s weekly. All good really since the optimum is \'independence. As long as \'independent can live in own home. I know since this is my field LOL. Am privately paid though not working for an agency.\'It comes down to $dollars and cents for seniors. All seniors get same in home no matter how well off they are here with private incomes. Don\'t forget we had the disease called S.A.Rs here and it was ugly. And then \'no one could be safe in the Hospitals LOL.
Try maybe suggesting some private health care in home to help Mom Dianne ??..someone to come in and tend to personal care.??
Nice on sending her roses and a card with a small angel figurine gift. Sweet. And of course you\'r communication .. a phone call away eh ?..
Love yah..((( Mom and Daughter)))..

Hi Dianne -- Glad to hear your Mom is out of the hospital and doing better. I\'m sure that made her Mother\'s day bettter!! A couple of years ago I had bacterial mengingitis with pnemonia and septisemia. Was in intensive care for 2 week -- on a breathing machine. Went to a regular room for 2 days and the insurance company said I had to go home. I was sent home with a port and my boyfriend at the time had to give me my antibiotics intravenously. A home health nurse came out once to show him how to do it... but I was still scared!!! I guess we all have insurance horror stories, but at least mine paid 100% of the hospital bill. Thank you for the hug -- I have been doing well!!!

Hi Dianne, glad to read your mom has a daughter who loves and cares about her so much.

I\'m finding I have many friend with parents facing the health care situation. My friend who I visited a few weeks ago... her father has been in and out of the hospital... when I was visiting he shared with me some of what he experienced while in... he said he was glad he was home. Difference is his daugher (my friend) was there to care for him.

His situation really is more than my friend can managage. She was able to arrange something with either Elder Care for someone to come into the house and help. My friend is self employeed so she has to leave to drum up money.

I know the emotions of a mom who is blessed by her child. Every time my older son does one small thing for me I get teary inside. It is a real blessing these days to have kids who care about their parents.

So proud for progress made in your life and that the *whole* of YOU can be there for your mom... whether thru a card; an angel figurine; or a phone call just to say hi, was thinking of you mom.

You are a special person. Glad to have you as a DS friend. {{hugs}} debs

Finding these days that \'life is good.\'
