Today is going OK so far... I wanted to take Jonathan shopping today, but his behavior is making me want to scream. I cannot control him anymore. He keeps throwing things, screaming, kicking, and not listening. I always try to stay calm with him- I hate yelling. I just don't know what to do anymore. I take things away, but he doesn't care. He also laughs when I react to what he's doing. I need help with him. The tantrums are so bad, and he's breaking things, including walls and putting a crack in one of the dining room windows. How do you handle an autistic boy who isn't on medication? I am considering talking to his doctor about meds, but will that mean that I am a failure? Rob and I have always said that we would never put him on pills to handle his behavior. Basically, if it isn't for pain or to keep him alive, he isn't taking a pill for it. I just don't know what to do with him at all. He's destroying our house and what's left of my sanity. How do I calm him down????

Look at it this was Melinda! He\'s not just breaking your stuff he\'s endangering himself. Breaking windows, what if he gets cut really bad! Just because you need some help doesn\'t mean you are a failure, and I say there\'s no harm in asking your doctor. You can discuss everything with him/her and decided together what would be in Jonathan\'s best interest.
I agree with Denidoo. Talk to your pediatrician. They should be able to give you a lot of help, if not, they can refer you to someone who can.
you are not a failer if you put him on drugs. I know add is not as bad as what Jonathan has but I did take ridalin when I was growing up and took some thing else as a adult. The drugs are there to help.
