One of the things I missed the most when I lived in Florida was the seasons.  Every one of them has its own great things!  There's summer, with hot days when you just sit in the shade, eating watermelon, and the sun doesn't set until 9pm.  Drinking lemonaide and jumping in a sprinkler (yep!  I still do that!).  Catching lightning bugs on a hot night.  Baseball games, the icecream truck, BBQ with hotdogs, burgers, coleslaw, and macaroni salad.  And, we can't leave out the best thing of all- SUMMER VACATION!Then there's autumn.  The days are cool and refreshing, and the air conditioner gets turned off.  It's just the right temperature to open up the windows at night and let the cool breeze fill the bedroom with fresh cool air.  Sleeping weather, that's what I call it.  Going to the apple orchard down at Mapleside Farms and picking apples and filling baskets.  Picking out pumpkins for Halloween, and baking the seeds as we carve them.  The leaves are changing into beautiful shades of oranges, reds, yellows, and browns.  They crunch under your feet on the sidewalk.  And, there's nothing like jumping into a huge pile of leaves all afternoon, and then going inside to have some freshly baked pumpkin pie with whipped topping!  Thanksgiving is around the corner, and that means seeing family and friends, and having dinner with them.  Everyone sits down and has juicy turkey, stuffing, corn, and veggie trays with dip.  We all talk with each other and tell funny stories, ask how everyone is doing, and joke about each other.  The kids are all running around, playing hide-n-seek throughout Grandma's house.  They're excited because Christmas is just around the corner!Before we know it, it's winter.  The first snowfall is always the best one.  Like a friend from the past, we welcome the freshly fallen white blanket covering everything around us.  We are in awe at its beauty.  Then, we realize we have to drive in that stuff.  And clean it off of the car.  And shovel it.  And we remember that the pretty white stuff is COLD!  The kids make a snowman in the front yard, with cold little noses turning red.  They have snowball fights, using garbage can lids as shields.  Everyone heads out to the biggest hill in town for some sled riding after dinner.  When we get home, it's hot cocoa with marshmallows!  Christmas is here, and the Christmas lights dazzle everyone.  Lots of shopping, decorating the tree, and the excitement of Christmas Eve and Christmas day!  There's Valentine's Day, too.  The day for men to make up for the mistakes they made from the past year!  Then spring is here!  The snow has melted, the grass turns bright green, the birds start to sing again, and little buds are popping up on tree branches everywhere.  The days are getting warmer and longer.  Spring flowers are coming up- happy daffodils and smiling tulips.  It's time to get out the lawnmower and dust it off.  Time to open up the windows, turn off the heat, and let in the fresh air once again.  Easter is here, and the kids are coloring eggs, and hunting for Easter Baskets.  When they're all hyper from eating loads of Easter candy before breakfast, it's time to go to church.  After church, it's off to Grandma's we go!  We gather around the table, say grace, and feast on honey ham with all the yummy sides!  Grandpa hands out five dollar bills to all of the grandchildren, and we all head outside to watch the kids hunt for Easter eggs!  The air is sweet and warm, and the little girls in their pretty dresses and Easter bonnets look adorable in the setting sun.  School will be out soon, and it's almost time once again for lazy summer nights.Of all of the seasons, fall is my favorite, even though I love all of them!
