Finally, I had a date! Well, kinda. It was supposed to be. It didn't turn out to be one. It started as one.
My husband asked me if I wanted to go out with him tonight. So, I dropped my son off with my parents, grabbed the movie listings from the newspaper, and we headed to Steak 'N Shake for one of those fruit and yogurt milk shakes that I wanted so bad last night. I finally got one tonight, strawberry, my favorite! We parked in the parking lot with our fries and our shakes and looked through the listings. Cinemark at Valley View: Babel, 6:40 pm and 9:55 pm. It was 7:10. Missed the 6:40 and the 9:55 was too late. (Parents of small children know all too well about bedtimes and such.) So, we figured bowling. We used to go bowling every Sunday morning. We headed home to get our shoes and bowling balls. It's off to Bradnan's for a few games and a few drinks. Nope. Not gonna happen. Bradnan's has league bowling all night. OK, try the next one down the road. Anyone who is from here knows without a doubt that Parma, Ohio has bowling alleys about every 1/2 mile or so. Yorktown, leagues until midnight. Cloverleaf, leagues. Brookgate, leagues. Seven Hills Lanes, leagues. OMFG! We just want one lane to bowl for about 2 hours! No open bowling anywhere! Well, scratch that. Pool? Not too many pool halls around, and we aren't much into the whole bar scene. So, OK, he suggests ice skating. I used to be a semi-good figure skater. Coaches, competitions, compete with a broken toe even though it hurts, get up at 4, rink at 5 for training, school at 7:45 am. My husband was a hocky player throughout high school. OK, let's go get my skates from home and drop off the bowling bags. But wait! He doesn't have skates anymore, and the rentals are too crappy and not wide enough for his feet. So, we head out to buy him some skates last minute. YAH RIGHT! is what I'm thinking! But I keep my mouth shut because he is trying so hard to make it a good night for me. We find skates. It's now 8:30. We head off to the nearest rink. Hockey game. OK, try Brooklyn. Hockey game. Halorin, hockey. Oh no! Now what? We checked a few more. Then it's almost 9:30, and he's hungry cause all we had was fries for dinner. OK, Taco Bell then go get Jonathan. We get to there, and they take forever, and we were the only car in the drive-thru. Then, our order is all wrong. Oh well, go get Jonathan and go home.
He tried so hard to make it a good night out for us. He thinks he failed. He didn't. The whole 2 1/2 hours we were driving all around the greater Cleveland area, we were talking. We talked about the fights and the arguements. We talked about everything that's been going on with us. We made jokes and laughed together. We talked about all the cute things that Jonathan does that other people don't notice. We held hands the whole time, and kissed at just about every red light. Things couldn't have been better! He thinks he failed, but I keep telling him that I wouldn't have changed a minute of it! I had a great time! And for the ice skating, we plan to go tomorrow since he bought skates anyway.
And, the night ain't over yet! Jonathan is sleeping, and it's cold so we made a fire. Who knows?

GOOD FOR YOU GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hubby didn\'t fail, just happeend...at least he gets a A for trying!!!!!
Ooops. I pressed the button before I wrote anything :) Silly me!
I\'m soo glad for you guys - keep reassuring him that he didn\'t fail that it was great. Sometimes we don\'t have control over what happens and sometimes driving around is half the fun of the actual activity becuase you do get to talk etc. I\'m glad you had a good night!
I am somewhat confused...Didn\'t he say that he wants a divorce just two days ago? Did he say that only because you seemed so happy that day and he needed to destroy your happiness? Honestly, looks to me that way. I do think that it is great that he is trying but be aware of the \"tactical\" side of it. He knows how to manipulate you.
