I forgot to write about my Neurologist appointment Monday. He is not the most friendly doctor I go to, but once things start going he warms up to you. And of course this makes me nervous and I sit really far away from him and talk really fast. But this is the doctor that when my first Neurologist couldn't figure out what to do with me, he figured out I had a stroke and how to make my headaches lessen. I did have a second stroke, but it wasn't as bad as the first. He has been good to me over the years.

Anyway, right off the bat he asks, what about this medicine your gyn keeps calling about. He says he has done some research, but he wants to hear from me. I said it was a breast cancer drug that they are trying on Endometriosis (which is what I have that causes me all my pain.) I said I was afraid to take it. I have not been able to find any research on it for endo treatment which aggravated me. And in one place I found that it said it had a stroke warning in some women. Well, I already had two of those and I would rather have pain the rest of my life than have another stroke. I mean they were small. My hands shake so my writing has changed and I have lost some pain response in my right foot. But I could have another that leaves me unable to talk or something.

The Neurologist agrees with me. He explained how it worked and he said it had lower amounts of hormones in it than other treatments like birth control (which most women with endo use and have good success with). He says I can't even do lower I have to do none. He explained that the type of headaches I have and the history of stroke just make it impossible. Any treatment they do cannot involve hormones. He said he would send my gyn a letter telling him. I feel so relieved because I have been saying this for months and my gyn has just insisted it would be fine. I almost gave in. I am so glad I am a persistent patient. I knew that drug was bad for me.

Then he goes to do the exam and causes a migraine. I swear. He pressed on my head in the places I usually get them and then he shined that damned light in my eye. I had to turn away. And when he did the follow my finger thing I got dizzy. Weird. I turned away and shook it off. He said it's bothering you isn't it. Gee, how can you tell?

So mostly it went well, except that I had to drive home with a headache and no sun glasses. It was a really sunny day and the light hurts my head. He also yelled at me because I didn't get my blood work done and I was like Dude, I have been a little busy with the hospital and pain. And he said I gave that to you in January. Well, I always get it done right before my next appointment because that is when they want it for. To see if they need to change anything at that appointment. (I used to see the physician's assistant there every so many visits and then the doctor every three months, and he told me to do it that way.)

I got it done after the appointment. Oh, it reminded me of the hospital. At least she got it in one stick. Next Monday I have to go for a nerve block and they are doing that under general anesthesia because they think I am a nervous person who would not be able to lie still mostly naked as they stab me with needles. (My psychiatrist agreed. She couldn't see me standing for it. That I would stop it before they got going and then have an anxiety attack and they would have to put me under anyway. I agree.) Anyway, another IV stick. I am so looking forward.
