3DEC08 - Interview Update...

Just wanted to put down my thoughts on the interview and my thank you letter to the interviewer.  I think the interview went well, it wasn't really that difficult at all....to start with, the interview put us all at ease by giving us an general informational presentation to familiarize us with the organization and the position (there were 3 of us there for a meeting with him at 1 o'clock....he talked about how the company was organized, how the CEO looks at things, what the position entails, the training, what he and upper management expect from their employees, the benefits offered by the company; it was kind of like he was trying to convince us to take the job....then he interviewed individually...and even the individual interview wasn't as nerve wrecking as other interviews....he had already put us at ease....as for me individually he asked about 5 questions... How did I feel about the 3 core skills that the company's CEO expects all of his employees to possess? This one was easy, the three skills are Technical Ability, People Skills, and Professionalism...I feel very comfortable with all three, Technically speaking I have advanced knowledge of MS Office begining with MS Word v2.0 through MS Office 2007, I have advanced knowledge of MS Operating Systems begining with DOS 5.0 through Windows XP (Home and Professional) and I have extensive knowledge of IT skills including installing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting hardware and software on computers ranging from stand alone configurations to small networks.  As for People Skills, I am confident that I have developed excellent customer service skills that focus on courtesy and a sense-of-urgency and include excellent phone etiquette and communication skills.  As for Professionalism, I would bring regular attendance, promptness, reliability, and dependability.  As for technical aptitude, how well do i know MS Excel? I would rate my knowledge of Excel as intermediate. In my last position, I had to produce multiple reports in Excel that included manipulating formulas, and getting the program to work for you.  Describe my best learning experience in IT whether it was in school, on my own, or in a past position? My best learning experience in IT was in my last position.  My Supervisor and Mentor, hired me, taught me a lot about IT itself, and the small organization's IT infrastructure in a very short amount of time,  then she left.   It was in that position that I learned the most about IT. Am I currently working/Availability I am not currently working and would be available to start at anytime in the near future.  I can actually start tomorrow if you want me to. Did I have hard copy of my resume? Yes!!! I did have a hard copy; and I gave it to him. And I can confidently say that the other 2 interviewee's did not because they were gentlemen, and one didn't have anything with him, and the other one only brought his umbrella. After the 'interview', he told me to keep an eye on my email, and he would be getting back to us within the next 2 weeks...after he meets with other managers who are also interviewing candidates.  They are hireing for three positions so there is a good chance that I will be hearing from them soon.  WOW, after all that I really hope and pray, that I get this job!  It really does sound like just what I am looking for.... Here goes my Thank you note.......tell me what y'all think:  Dear Sir,  Just a few lines to thank you for taking the time to discuss XYZ Co. and the position with us today.  After meeting with you, I am further convinced that my background and skills coincide well with your needs.  I really appreciate that you took time to acquaint us with the company, the position, and even your support team.  I feel I could learn a great deal from you, your team lead, and the support team, and would certainly enjoy working with you all! I am looking for a responsible and rewarding challenge; and the position itself sounds like a wonderful opportunity to utilize and increase my IT skills while increasing efficiency and profit for your organization. In addition to my qualifications and skills, I would bring excellent work habits that include the three core habits (Technical Aptitude, People Skills and Professionalism)  required by you and your CEO, Mr. ABC. Thank you very much for the opportunity to introduce myself to you.  I am confident that my IT and Customer Service background make me a strong candidate for the position at XYZ Co.
