So DH and I are or at least seem to be at odds about something. A vary rare occurrence. I’ve mentioned this to a certain degree before, but it just keeps popping up and I have such opposing emotions about it I just have to express. My MIL has been talking about starting a family vacation, in lieu of Christmas gifts, well large gifts. Now on the surface it sounds good. But MUCH to my surprise it was also, without our input decided that it would start THIS YEAR! So despite DH supposedly telling MIL that this is not the best year and that we very well may not go, she still is just trucking along, telling my niece and nephews how much fun we’ll all have on Florida, that everyone is going, stressing DH and I. Composing emails about how my brother-in-law has already bought tickets and encouraging us to maybe get on the same flight..etc, etc! So there are two angles to this: First - my sister-in-law has a tendency to plan these trips like something out of a book by the Gestapo, to the point that her own husband refused to go the last year! Naturally the idea of spending a week standing in line at every park with four kids, under the age of 7 and none of them ours of course! Well that’s not our idea of a vacation. Some parks, but mostly time with the family, playing on the beach, bbq’ing, bond fires, hiking in the whatever, this is more what we would want to do. Don’t know that it’ll happen. Second - Um yeah HI in-laws who naturally have been after us since I think our second date to have children – we are trying! And it amazes me that especially after one failed IVF cycle all last year they wouldn’t GET IT that I can’t be planning trip at the moment!!! Best case scenario I’m just PG, might not be feeling very good, will have doctors appointments weekly, and certainly can’t be standing in a amusement park all day! Worst case and the still crappy case scenarios, well I wouldn’t even bother with their so freaking numerous and you ladies certainly can imagine! DH, what I seem to get from him is this trip is not fun, we have to get them to not go to parks all 7 days, or maybe we’ll just go down for part of the time. He doesn’t seem to be giving enough credence to the other aspect of this issue which quite frankly if the more important one in my opinion. He’s said that my health and the “baby” (we speak of so hopefully) come first and foremost, but then in discussions it doesn’t seem to be there and that of course frustrates me and makes me feel incredibly guilty. Like I’m being unreasonable and a burden. Like he doesn’t want to tell them that aspect which I kind of understand because I’m afraid that I’ll get the guilt trip from them. Like I have some f-ing control of this. I told him at one point that although I would like the understanding the consideration from his family that maybe that was asking too much but that I certainly am expecting it from him! And I don’t feel like I’m getting it. It’s just making me feel so badly, I want to be positive, hell I’d like to be able to go, but not knowing what’s go to be makes that impossible. I hate the fact that my IF is controlling my/our life like this, but what other choice do I have right now! I know this is temporary, that we have chosen to try and TTC, despite the IF, I don’t regret that. But with something like this it just adds an extra stressor that I didn’t see coming and yet another like “thing” my DH doesn’t quit seem to get.

I\'m sorry you are dealing with this. In-laws and even our own families can be so insensitive at times.
So, I just read your journal about the vacation thing and I thought I\'d drop you a note to hopefully let you know you\'re not alone. I had a similar issue come up this summer with my DH and his family. Briefly: We were in the middle of IVF and my SIL decides to plan a family vacation to Lake Powell on a house boat to celebrate her 40th birthday. Their brother passed away the year before and so everybody applies much preassure that we \"do this vacation\". Well, I\'m worried about exactly where we\'re going to be at in the cycle (probably the 2WW which worries me) and also it\'s not like we had the extra money to be doing expensive vacations. My DH was not nearly as understanding as I thought he would be and asked me to \"do this for him\". No preassure there. Feeling guilty about the burden I had placed on him with the IF journey, I conceded and we went anyway. Luckily it worked out, but we\'re broke and I still think his SIL is pretty selfish for my considering more what was going on with us. Oh and did I mention she\'s now planned a bus trip to Vegas next month for her anniversary??!! What does she think we make tons of money?? ARghghg! I hope you don\'t mind me butting into your journel. I just really feel your pain with the in-laws, etc. Glad to know there are others out that the suffer the same drama!
HA! Note: my photo is from our Lake Powell trip!
