Day 72:
Tossed and turned last night wondering about the Dr. Laura admonition to be a “Man” more than a “male.” That’s what I want to be, to be a credible, honorable man.
What is a man to me? Someone who is strong, decisive, honorable, chivalrous, self-less, adventurous, dependable.
Someone who puts his family’s needs before his own
Yet someone who is still passionate and happy, not a drone or a slave the mere whims of wife or family.
What would a family’s needs be?
- Emotional primacy: They are the apple of his eye. Wife is the sole intimate interest, kids are deeply meaningful and he strives to be with them as much as possible.
- Short of me “diluting” Sarah, I feel this is me.
- Brother/Sister in law think I’m a “phenomenal” dad. So does everyone I know.
- Financial Security: Doing whatever it takes (ethically) to provide basic sustenance, shelter, schooling, etc. In today’s world, that’s probably $30k/year depending on living situation.
- I feel I do this. I draw $60k-100k / year and am working toward more.
- Physical Security: Being the protector of the family; the one to creep downstairs with a pistol if something goes “bump.”
- We have the Tucson house (more than adequate)
- Tiny house, which is sufficient
