Thanksgiving was difficult.  My extended family gets together for five days each year and I went to Oregon and met up with my kids.  They flew in from their colleges.  The vacation was just sad to me. I couldn't help but remember how it was for the twenty previous Thanksgivings.  I was sad and I think my kids were as well.  I came home and called my stbx about the offer we received on our house and about paying our property taxes.  We couldn't finish the conversation as she got abusive on the phone and I hung up.  She called back and left a long message on my phone.  The message made it clear to me where she is and how much blame she has against me.  It helped pull me a bit away from that nostalgic place.  She takes no responsibility for the end of our marriage.  That is clear.  I have no idea why I would expect her to do that.  My problem is my feelings.  I am sad and lonely and am waiting to feel, if not good, at least okay.  It has been fifteen months since she left and her affair became common knowledge.  I am doing the things that I should do, talking to friends, writing, reading and praying.  I guess I am just ready for the constant sadness to end.  It has tired me out. I feel like I am stressed to the limit and need something to help me feel better.  Hopefully my sadness is just a function of the holiday season.

I\'m so sorry Tony. Just when you think you have a grip some unprocessed part of your past rears it\'s ugly head. The holidays are good for that. Be kind to yourself. Your a good man, a wonderful dad and a loyal mate. Grieve this too. The only way over it is through it. But the end is near. Feeling better comes. At lease in your own mind you did everything you could. I\'m there too Tony is stinks.

Wow. You got an offer on your house! How lucky are you! Nothing on my house. I saw you were still having a tough time and you\'re doing all the right things. I just attended a \"New Beginnings\" workshop and there is one in Malibu the last weekend of January. It was awesome and really sort of \"cleaned out\" the crap. I think you can go online to get the information or I can email you the brochure.

Yes, the holidays easily pull you into that misty, dreamy place of where you thought your marriage was and always would be. You are right to realize she is not going to accept responsibility and her blaming you is only a way to ease her guilt. It is sad, but you will overcome. Spoil yourself a little and lose yourself in a cause or hobby that brings you a little joy and release.

I wanted to add one thing, having your kids gone sets u back. Remember how hard of a time I was having after my kids moved. That is what u r suffering from on top of the normal. And listen to pianogirl, she is one of my besy friends, she is wise, humorous and together. If u go to my photos there is a picture of the group I got together with that I invited u to. How did u end up not on my friend list anymore?

The sadness that sits inside is so heavy...but remember it is part of you - but not who you are. There is so much more to you than the sadness that has set up shop inside. For me, it was acknowledging that it was there, and then doing what I could to let it go. Not resisting, or fighting it....just nodding...yes...I feel you...and it passes. It comes back too...but I know now that it\'s not my defining characteristic. And I know that it\'s not yours either. There are many wonderful and great things in your life and those will become the focus - I know they will. HUGE hugs from Mass :-)
