Confused
I was diagnosed late last year as coming "under the Parkinson's umbrella" could someone please explain what this means. My neurologist hasn't explained anything other than the above. I have been doing a lot of research on Parkinson's on several websites and I have a good understanding of PD and learning more everyday but I still don't understand what "under the Parkinson's umbrella" means. I have to admit that my thinking is a bit off par these days.
I have been on Sinemet and then Sifrol for over 30 years for Restless Leg Syndrome and when the symptoms became unbearable and resembled PD I was sent to the neurologist.
The Sifrol dose has been x 4 and the symptoms appear to have settled down somewhat.

I hope someone answered your question before this. I am guessing the doctor was talking about \"Parkinsonism\" . My understanding is that Parkinsonism can be corrected overtime, where Parkinson itself can not.
Thank you RJ, still hoping that it\'s not PD but the signs are there. I\'m thinking about getting a second opinion as I\'m not completely satisfied with my neurologist, she doesn\'t spend enough time explaining things and I am in and out in a few minutes.
Definitely worth a second opinion. A DatScan is helpful in diagnosing; however, I am told that if the medication controls the symptoms then it normally is PD. I was told to find a neurologist who specializes in Movement Disorders. I was very lucky in finding the top Movement Disorder specialist in my area. I hope you find one that will take the time to help you understand.
I think I have just put up a mental block because I don\'t want it to be true. Over the last 10 days they have done a swallowing study that shows the damage from PD, and I had testing regarding the kidneys and bladder that also showed the complications caused by PD. At this point I am having to face the fact that this is for real and not going away. I know I am going through the 5 stages of Grief. Taking it one day at a time.
I will be keeping my finger\'s crossed and prayers that you find a Motion Disorder specialist that you like.
