Well I survived yesterday. It was a bad day. Hubby was really sick and come to find out, it could have been prevented altogether. We got up as usual, and I got him some breakfast. all through breakfast hekept saying that he just did not feel right. I had no clue. I made sure he was wearing his oxygen and did not hurt. There was nothing more I could do.  About 10:30 he decided that he just could not do it and he wanted to go back to bed and be put back on his vent. After an exhausting trip to the bedroom I finally go him hooked back up. 2 hours later he was still complaining about not feeling right, so I got on the phone to the resperatory therapist and asked him what I could do to make him breathe better. Changing the vent, still not any better. Probably about 4:00 He asked me to move the small table beside his bed. I had to go on the other side of his bed to move it, when I got over there, I looked down and saw that his oxygen tubing was not attached to his oxygen consentrator. He had been without oxygen for who knows how long thinking he was getting it. I felt horrible. I should have checked it first when he said that he did not feel right. I started crying and he was trying to tell me that it was not my fault, but even knowing that it wasn't I still felt responsible for it. Within the hour he started feeling much better and even wanted dinner. I kept him on the vent for the remainder of the day, and today was a much better day. I have checked umpteen times to make sure all hoses are where they are supposed to be.  That is one mistake I am sure will never happen again.Tomorrow will be another exhausting day we are going to make the trek to the hospital to get his trach changed. I wish that I knew how to do it, but no-one will teach me. Maybe they will show me at the hospital tomorrow, and I can do it next month. Thought for today........What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
