Well, I finally have gotten him home from the hospital. We have been home since the 7th, but until lately I have been trying to get things into a routine. I never realized how sick he really was. We have nurses and resperatory therapists and physical therapists all coming to the house on a regular basis. The weekends are nice because they all leave us alone. I am glad that they are here, but sometimes it can be overwhelming.I had to quit my job in order to stay home and take care of my husband. He is one that cannot be left alone. He may fall and cannot get back up, or he may get a clog in his trach and need to be suctioned. he is not strong enough to get up and get things for himself, I am glad that I can be here, but sometimes it would be nice to just go somewhere without worrying about getting someone to be here with him.He is still on the ventalator at night. I had to go through classes in order for him to come home, so I know how to hook him up at night and how to take him off in the morning and what to do if an alarm goes off. He is on insulin shots, 3 of them a day. I am scared to death of needles, but I have learned to give him the shots he needs. I have to do trach care every day and change his inner breathing canula. I have to do wound care on his leg every day. Plus give him his bath and make sure he gets dressed. Then its all the medication and knowing when to give him what pill. I have it all written down, so I get it all done at the right time. So far I have done everything today. I have to give him insulin about 8:30 and then a snack and then I am done til he is ready for bed and goes on the vent. I am holding up okay, I just did not realize how much work it is. I look forward to my little breaks that I get every day. Sometimes I have to give him the cheer up talk, but I have to tell myself the same things sometimes. there are times that I just think that I am not going to make it, that it is too much, but I call my mom or my sister and they make it okay again.
