WTF...
So I just got off the phone with my mother. It was a "typical" conversation ... she calls, she talks, I listen. When she called I was sitting at my sister's piano (I'm house/dog sitting) and was playing a little bit. I don't have any formal training but I can play by ear ... I've always been able to that. Anyway, I answered and she heard the last notes lingering and said, "what's that in the background?" I said it was the piano and said, "yeah you can play chopsticks ... two fingers." Why she takes every opportunity to knock me down when I only build her up and try to make her feel better about herself ... I'll never know. What I do know is that I'm finally taking full notice of it and I truly dislike it. She asked how my foot was doing and when I was going to the doctor's next ... then she gave me about 30 seconds to answer before cutting me off. She said she had the same thing with her foot and that there was a bone sticking out in her foot too. That it wasn't an extra bone, her friend Annie (a teacher) said so, and that there's nothing wrong with me. Too bad the doctors and x-rays say differently ... but she said it so it must be true (in her mind). To her, I imagine, I'm just angling for attention. Then she launched into a 30 minute "conversation" where I spoke less than 20 words. Basically, she talks and I listen. It's always how it's been and when I do speak she usually talks over me or contradicts me ... so what's the point of even trying? I didn't want to talk to her. I wanted desprately to hang up. That thought typically crosses my mind but then I find myself feeling guilty because there are so many people who don't have their parents and would give anything to talk to them. While she's, by far, not the best parent ... she's mine so I should appreciate her. My father called earlier this morning too. We talked almost 60 minutes. He's easier to talk to because he does listen to me ... but he called with a purpose. He's driving my car and someone stole the registration tag off the license plate. He got pulled over for having expired tags but was able to prove it was current by having the CHP officer run the registration card, which was in the glove box. I told him I wanted to transfer the title into his name and now was as good a time as any, since I'm going to have to deal with the DMV to get a replacement tag. He said that wouldn't work out for him because the IRS might take the car. I told him it didn't work for me because if he has an accident they'll go after me because I'm the owner, pay the insurance and have income. He said, in all seriousness, "I don't have accidents ... if I'm in an accident it will be because someone hits me." He completely glossed over my concern and didn't hear me. It ticked me off. The thing is he's in his 70s and while he THINKS he's a good driver he ISN'T anymore!!! In his mind he's still in his 30s. It's kind of sickening that he can't accept reality. He's old. He tries so hard not to be old. I feel sorry for him but he frustrates me to no end. I pray he doesn't get in an accident. He's leveraging my financial future ... but that's nothing new. He talked, AGAIN, today about me getting involved in options, the stock market and trading currency. It's all risky but he just doesn't see it that way. He says if I'm "smart" I won't lose any money ... that I'll only make money. Thing is, he's been chasing this financial tigers tail his entire life and who's paying his bills? Me. If it was such easy money, everyone would be rich and I told him exactly that. He, of course, had a comeback that people get greedy and if they didn't there wouldn't be any problems .... but I disagree. He's tried to get me to give him money in the past, to invest, but I didn't have it then and I don't have it now. I'm not investing and neither is he. Why are my parents so draining to me? I know this is who they are, yet every time they call it's the same story. They wreck my state of mind ... which, to be honest, has been lousy lately anyway. I tried to push back, set more boundaries, with both during each conversation but they don't hear me and they don't respect them. For us to have healthy relationships I need to set boundaries ... but they need to respect them as well. They make me angry. I'm so annoyed and I feel an anger building ... I don't know how to express it. I don't know how to let it out. All I want to do is get away. I want to get away from them and everyone else. I want everyone to leave me alone.

Hey, you play your piano by ear!!!!!! Most use their hands.lol
It sounds like your mom is like my MIL,all she wants is to moan and not listen, I tend to talk to her for about two minutes and then when she starts talking I tend to leave the phone at arms length checking after about a minute (She talks loud enough).
There is always the knock at the door that you need to see to,or I have a bad case of the runs and need the restroom(See I am picking up Americanese.lol)
Try to enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Take care
