I will end my job at the computer lab/ learning lab because the woman I've covered for is returning from maternity leave. So they asked me to teach. I originally applied to this job over a year ago because my sis works there and referred me as a psych/sociology teacher because my BA degree is in psych. I get to teach math! I am good at math, but need to do a lot of studying to get reaquainted. I haven't taken algebra since high school, 20 years ago! I didn't get the job originally because my presentation was not strong. I think math will be a good way to get my foot in the door because it is a little less creative than presenting other classes. Anyway, yes I missed the formal training but they are making up for it best they can with some one on one with different people, and I will get to travel for the next training in 5 weeks so I will get a much needed vacation (maybe 3 hours away, but still! It's been soo long). It is a 5 week class and they provide the whole course outline and tests and quizzes, so it is ideal for me. I am feeling more confident as I learn a bit more about what I need to learn in order to teach the class. AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhh. Still have a ays to go and it may be tough, but it is just one class w/ maybe 15 students, and I will have coworker nearby incase I get stuck, so I do have help and it is challenging me to confront that nasty character challenge I have of pride/inability to ask for help and have some humility and speak up for myself. So I am feeling better prepared, challenged and excited. I didn't want to turn the job down because I haven't worked using my degree since soon after I graduated, it was nearly 15 years ago when I taught as a substitute teacher. I have had my temporary jobs and have gotten used to be able to sit at a computer and go online for pleasure at work. This will be different but I am glad I say yes, it is teaching me to rely on God as I affirm I trust God to provide the help I need when I need it. And it pays at least twice as much as I am used to making. Mom cried about her sis dying a couple weeks ago today as she cleaned and got to her photo. I sat and cried with her, and brought her a tissue - a gift of sobriety, being there for mom. Sad sis isn't coming around to be with mom during this time. She is so busy. So I will start teaching in just over a week and let you all know how it goes. Wish me well.
