Just filled out an application to adopt a basset hound. I dont want a puppy, I prefer an older dog and my family always had a hound when I was growing up. I thought it would be nice to have a companion to ease the lonely nights home alone. Thinking of a nice basset about 3yrs old. Her name is Maisy and she's adorable. She looks like she needs someone as much as I do.

Oh what a great idea!!!I really hope it works out!! My pets have helped me so much.
Good for you!A dog is a wonderful friend to have. They are always happy to see you come home, and they don\'t care about any of your faults as long as you feed and water them. I had to have my dog put down in Jan.(I am not sure what month because it was shortly after Steven died.)She was nesrly 18 years old. My son,Paul brought her home when she was about 9 weeks old.He was 15 at the time, and then went to see his Dad in Louisiana, and stayed for a year. By then Sabbat (named after Ozzie Osborne\'s band,Black Sabbath. I would never have gotten a pitbull, because of the horrible things about the breed. Sabbath was the smartest and best dog that I have ever seen. She remembered Paul when he came back, but by then she was ny dog.Paul and I went rounds over her. I agreed to let her mate woth a friends pit bull, and Paul got to pick first puppy. He ended up trading the puppy fot a stupid tattoo. There were 7 born, one had heart problemd and died. My husband kept a puppy. and so did my other son Steven. They both kept thrie dogs and treated them like people. They died at 11 yr. and 13 yr. both with cancer.Sabbath followed me everywhere. If I layed down, sh laid between me and the door. When she got old, she slept on her pillow beside me. When I was sick with the breast cancer and treatments, she was with me every day when I got up she did too. When I went to bed,she went too.She even came to the bathroom, and waited by the door. I loved her and loosing her was just the last blow to my mental state. The vet let me pet her head and talk to her and lay my head on hers when he gave her the shot. She was deaf, nealy all the way blind, and could not get uo snd down the steps. She had arthritis so bad that she could hardly walk. It was almost like loosing another family . The Vet said when they stop eating it is time to let her go. James buried her beside her 2 puppies. (we live in the country, No threat to water supply.I believe a dog will be good for you. They each have their own personalities, just as people do.My Sabbath even won my mom over, who did not think dogs should be in the house, much less in the bed with me.I sure miss her. Sabbath was Paul\'s dog first, but not after she was with me a year. She never bit anyone neither did either of her puppies. I loved thst dog like s member of our family. James, Steven and I all cried when they each died. A dog will add so much to your life, It will be good for you. It will be company, campanion, watch over you, and you can teach them so much if you try. I think Basset\'s are usually pretty low maintace dogs. 3 is a good age too. Not in the chewing of shoes and stuff, yet young enough to have a good lomg life left to keep you comoany I love you and will be praying that the right dog chooses you.
Your dog will play and it will never hurt you (like some people \" friends \" sometimes do. Enjoy your new best friend. I hope it workd out perfectly fot you. I am a dog lover, as if you could not tell. Best of luck, but I am sure it will be s really
a wonderful rxperience , love,Peggy
What a great idea!! They are ALOT of work, but the rewards are all worth it. I had a golden retriever for almost 13 yrs. When she died, I was devastated. I told Jim that I DID NOT want another dog as our lives had changed. Kids grown up, a grandaughter, time to go away for the day or to travel. Well surprize, on my birthday 7 yrs. ago, he told me we were going away SOMEWHERE overnight. I packed a suitcase and everything. Had no idea. We drove to New York and stopped at this little old house. I was like What in God\'s name is this place. We went to the door and a woman came out holding an English Cocker Spaniel puppy. Jim had purchased him for me. I WILL admit that I was not THAT happy, because as I said I knew how much work they were, and our lives had changed since my other dog. This dog has become my BEST companion. I honestly don\'t know what I would do without him now. Maybe someone was reading into the future, I don\'t know. Sometimes when I have a major meltdown, he will crawl up into my lap and just keep kissing and kissing.. He sleeps with me and is my constant companion. I KNOW that you will find that this new \"best friend\" will help you soooo much. I wish you all the luck with your NEW BABY!!!! Hugs, Alice
