Wow, I have been on DS more than any other site.  I keep going back and reading and reading.  I am appauled by the amount of people who have been abused.  I am angry as well.  I see this as an issue that really really needs to be looked at and taken seriously.  Not to negate the abuse men have gone thru, but the numbers of women who have been abused is astounding.  I question why woman?? Why, why.  I know that in times long ago women were possessions and treated as such.  I know what the Bible says about women and how they are to be in their relationships with men.  I am a Christian, but ...........I too have my boundaries and limits and my belief about how I am to be with my husband or any other person in authority.  My authority is God. That is where the authority stops.  I will not submit to a man, I will not obey a man, I will not allow a man to be abusive to me, I will not be in a relationship that is not equal.  I just will not.  I look at those words submissive, obey as words that will keep me down.  Keep me the scared child I was.  I am an adult with my own mind.  I personally would never ask my husband to obey me, to be submissive.  He would'n't anyway.  Where does it read or say that I must be everything to everyone else and forget about me.  Damn I am mad.  I am mad that we as woman have been beaten up, raped, sexually abused and it keeps going on and going on.  It has to stop.!!!!!!!!!!!!  I want to scream to all the people out there to STOP.  Stop hurting the people in your life, that you SUPPOSEDLY LOVE.      This ain't love when you beat up your wife, or sexually abuse your child.  This is evil.  Pure and simple.  Evil.  My husband last night asked if I ever wanted to be a man and think like a man.  He is a good person my husband, but I would never ever want to be a man, especially some of the men I have met in my life.  I am glad I am a woman, soft, gentle, caring, respectful of others, sensitive to their needs as well as my own.    I am soooooooooooo grateful for how far I have come.  I am not that doormat I used to be.  I know how to say no and mean it.  I know how to stand up for myself and mean it without demeaning the other person.  I feel like I want to go global and tell all woman to stop allowing themselves to be put down, stepped on and stand up for themselves.  God did not make junk.  I am not junk.  I am not stupid, too sensitive, and if I am thank God I am sensitive to others. Imagine if this world had more sensitive, caring individuals in it.  It would be very much like the heaven I believe I will go.  I am tired, so tired of how I see the people in my world are treated.  I want to do something about it.  I want to stand on a mountaintop and scream STOP.  STOP HURTING OTHERS.

AMEN...but we need to reach the men that aren\'t here to get them to see that we are to be valued, not treated like slaves and whipping poles

There\'s a huge backlash going on against women right now. A lot of men don\'t think anything of disrespecting and abusing women these days. They speak openly about it, as if (and they probably are) they\'re proud of it. It\'s almost become a rite of passage or something to brag about. I find it so discouraging. Enlightened men need to start speaking up and calling other men on their sexism. Those cretins don\'t usually listen to women -- though I, too, refuse to accept disrespect. That doesn\'t keep me, or other women, from being the brunt of abuse though. Too many people, both male and female, think nothing of crossing a woman\'s boundaries where they would never do that with a man. The legacy of women being considered inferior, objects to be used by men continues.

Thank you for responding. I said to my husband while at the dinner table just few minutes ago, \"and you wonder why there is women\'s lib. The feminist, the activist, the advocate has truly come out and yes, I have a voice that will be heard, if only in my circle of friends and people I meet. I keep Dancer asking this question. Where did it start, where did men start to think that they own the women and children in their lives. I have not found the answer, but I read a lot of feminist books and a few of my friends are feminist. I learn from them. One woman said all it takes is to study women\'s history. Therein lies the answer. Looks like I have a LOT of reading to do. lol

Very well said! I agree whole heartedly. We need to think better of ourselves and lead other young girls as well. We need more strong women role models.
