Anniversary
Yesterday would have been our 6th wedding anniversary. We were supposed to (hopefully) be coming home from Stowe today. This was a trip I had booked for November as a surprise but had to push back once we knew Dina was having her original heart surgery. I picked a weekend in January to give her something to look forward to while she recovered. Then after the events of December 15th I obviously had to push it back again. I knew it would be a while until she would be able to travel so I picked this past weekend because our anniversary fell on the Sunday, 7/7. This was our goal. Get healthy enough to go away for our anniversary. We were excited. It obviously never came to pass.
Yesterday was sadly like most other days of the past 7 months, which is also how it felt leading up to it. I got my daughter up and we had breakfast. After some TV and play time we went food shopping. When we got home Nana came up to hang out with my daughter so I could do some much need yard work. I then wanted to go to the cemetery but my daughter didn't. I will never force her to go so I dropped her off at Grammie's to hang out. That visit turned the day a little. It certainly was not how I thought I would be spending my 6th anniversary. We later went to dinner at a new restaurant near us that Dina wanted to try but never got the chance to. After getting my daughter to bed I watched both our wedding video and the slideshow my cousin had put together that was played at our wedding. This was our usual anniversary tradition. It was tough at the start but got better and it was nice to watch. I even got to hear her voice, which I haven't really heard since December 14th.
All in all it was an up and down day. I will say that it drove home the reality of this situation just a little more. However, I couldn't help but think back often to our 5th anniversary, the last one we spent together. It was really one of our last full on 'date nights'. I booked a hotel room in the Seaport District of Boston. We had drinks on a roof deck with 360 degree views of Boston, had a delicious Mexican dinner and Dina even ate shrimp, albeit after a couple glasses of sangria...either way it was a big deal!! Thinking of that yesterday definitely provided some smiles, but also left me wanting to do it all over again.
