8 days sober and counting.. lol.I work for my son here in Utah county and it snowed like hell lastnight and this morning. I was so glad I had a big truck with four wheel drive as it was a white knuckle ride to say the least. There were cars strewn all over the freeway. Drove slow and got here safely. Its about a 25 minute drive but took me an hour. Anyway the neighbor across the street from my son has some young kids about 5 to 10 years old. He went out while it was snowing and shoveled his driveway. I mean there is about a foot of snow on the ground. He kept shoveling it and putting it on to his front steps. I couldnt figure out what he was doing so I kept watching. He kept piling it on and flatening it down only on the right hand side. He did it down all the steps and up to his front door packing it down until it is about 8 inches deep and very well packed. Then he got out this plastic sled and started about three stairs from the bottom and got on it and rode it down the front yard to pack the snow on the lawn. He kept doing that till he was at the top of the stairs and then he rode it all the way down until he could get to the end of his yard, packing it down all the way. My son looked out and started laughing.. Come to find out he was making his kids a sled ride for when they get home from school.. How awesome is that?I wish I would have had a father or parent in my life that would have done something like that for us kids. I wonder if these kids even realize how special they must be to have parents that love them so much. My son remembered when we set out one year in the front yard and built a huge igloo. He said maybe when Milly his girlfriend got home they would go out and build one but then he realized they dont have the snow clothes for it. He doesnt remeber most the things he had when he was a kid usually so it was pretty fun sharing. I wasnt home enough with my kids as I worked in bars to make enough money to support them. Ryans father left me when I was pregnant. I was the head cocktail waitress at his club and when I didnt have the abortion like he wanted me to he left me and I got fired and lost everything.. He never saw his father until he was 14 and then Lamar came around and became a some what dad for a few years. Ryan is now 29. Dakota my other son, his father was a major alcoholic and always came home to drunk to be a father. He wasnt a bad man he just let the beast take over and was more important than his family. He also had two kids long before I was with him and almost my age. I stayed for a little less then 20 years as I was only 23 when I started with Gary, he was 40. Dakota or Ryan never had father figures in their life and that was something that I always wanted them to have because I didnt and I was emotionaly distraught most of my life because of it. Because I never had a family life, I never realized that people did things together and with their families so my kids never had that either.. I provided for both of them as best I could and they never ever went without. They never had to suffer the abuse that my siblings and I had to. I wasnt there for them as I should have been but I have made up for that now.. Dakotas dad died three years ago today from alcoholism.. Dakota doesnt think about the bad, just all the good and how much he loved his dad. I know he is still hurt that his dad wasnt there for him but he loved him unconditionally. His only daughter didnt even show up at the funeral.. SAD..  Ok enough sad stuff. This is my story and Im sticking to it.. lol... Y'Vonne

congrads on the sober part. I think alot of us wish that we could of had a nomal life with parents but I do think we are better because of how we had it and we wanted to make sure our kids didn\'t go through what we had too. I think is is so great what you did for you boys and I hope they appreciate it too it takes alot to be a single parent. I am sooooo happy that you are trying to quite drinking my real dad is and achoholic and I hate him because that is all her cared about and he still is that way. I know how hard it is to break a habit I am trying to get off of sugar again and I am having ahard time doing it. I know that I can I have done it before but when things get going bad I go for the sugar and it is bad, I can\'t have chocolate because I have panik attacks and that makes it worse but so does the sugar if I have too much. We have hardly any snow you all can keep it but I do need enough to go snowmobiling and need the moister for my horses so I don\'t have a hard time finding hay this next year. I only have two but they eat me out of house and home. I hope your having a good day otherwise keep up the good work. I am proud of you...Vic

you know i think your boys had a better life than you think....they knew you loved them unconditionally, that you worked hard to take care of them. they also know you didn\'t beat them or any number of things that could have happened. yeah, it would have been nice if you could have...(insert here)...but the reality is that you did the best you could, and you didn\'t make the same mistakes your parents made, and you raised two wonderful, productive members of society!

I agree with Chilvr. I know it was tough having to be both Mom and Dad, but they are still lucky to have an incredible mom who would do anything for them. Godd luck with the sobriety, you have alot of people in your corner!
