3 more weeks

I have been in Ottawa for 3 weeks helping my granddaughter out with her 5 year olds. She works 6 days a week.  Luckily, I really only have them for 3 days.  They spend from Friday to Sunday with their dad.  I adore them but they keep me busy!  I go home in 3 weeks.  The time is flying by!

I have developed a bit of a chest infection - I don't feel sick but I had laryngitis and now a cough.  It is just annoying!

I had to come at a rather unfortunate time.  We had volunteered to host a Ukrainian immigrant but weren't contacted so we figured they didn't need us.  After booking my flights, we got a call asking if we would take in a 51 year old lady.  So Lena came 2 weeks before I left!  She is a lovely lady who has quickly become a friend.  She and Joe are managing well without me.  She was a bit shocked when I shared with her that I was leaving for 6 weeks!  We email almost daily.  It is still hard for her to talk on the phone as she is struggling a bit with English.  However she is a go getter - once she learned how to use public transit, she has been independent.

I was about to organize a weekend away as a few of my nursing classmates live here in Ontario.  Being a procrastinator, I hadn't called.  Instead, I got a call a few days ago saying that Lynda was in the hospital having serious heart surgery and they didn't know if she would make it. Lynda lives closest to Ottawa and we have gotten together when I am here! She had an aortic aneurysm repair a few years ago.  She recovered very well and was an active senior - very involved in lawn bowling.  Apparently she had been fine - other than a bit of heartburn.  I guess something burst - she was in surgery for 12 hours. I got an update on  Friday saying that she was in ICU and was responding and might be getting off the ventilator.

I feel like I have reached a time in my life when I wonder what is next!!  I am still feeling sad that my best friend during training has Dementia.  It is hard to see someone struggling to cope with reality.  It makes me wonder 'What next!'

In the meantime, I have caught up with friends, hung out with my son-in-law and am enjoying life as best I can.  Anyone who is familar with my early journals will recall that he and I did not get along for many years.  He is struggling because his wife (the mother of the young man who hung himself) has essentially moved West to be with her adult children.  She seems to be blaming Harvey for everything that has gone wrong in her life.  Cevyn is more than glad to see her never come back.  She blames Cevyn for the fact that Davey killed himself.  I certainly get the fact that Beth is a grieving mom.  However, she left months before David died and as Harvey said, she needs help big time.

Enougn of me for now.

Lisa:  I miss you always and love you forever.  Mummy

OH darling.....SO much! Makes me feel guilty about sharing my teeny tiny reasons to bitch sessions! (But thanks for allowing me to do so!)

I can imagine the girls wear you out....we just don't have that kind of energy any more!! But what fun, and what a gift they are, and I know you enjoy every moment with them!

I'm so very sorry you're not feeling well and I pray it's not too serious. And I'm so sorry about your friend and will be praying for a miracle for her.

I do remember your journals, and I'm glad you and Harvey are able to get on better now. Sad that his wife is blaming him.....grief brings out the best AND the worst in people I think.

Thanks for sharing! And please take good care of yourself!

OH....and what a wonderful gift you and Joe are giving to your house guest! Praying for an end to the madness of war, hate, greed, lies and all manner of evil. Not sure humans will ever truly live in peace on earth,, but I still hope.

LOVE and (((hugs)))
