3 more good things
So today was well....ordinary. I awoke feeling ok and then dragged my poor husband out of bed to go for an early morning run. Things were good until I got into work. Suddenly my mood plummeted. I had been trying to figure out why and the only explanation is this: I work with radiation. At times, I scan patients who have been injected with a radioisotope and therefore emit radiation. We try to protect ourselves as much as possible but if you are pregnant, it is completely unsafe for you(well for your baby) to be around such patients and therefore you are restricted to staying in the scan room. Today was one of these days where I was working with the patients.
I guess in my head, last week when I though I was pregnant, I was looking forward to the moment today when I could walk in and say " actually I will just stay in the scan room today..." Obviously, that moment didn't get to happen because I am not pregnant. So I guess that was why I was so low. Anyway, my mood didn't improve on the way home at the local grocery store as it was filled with teenage mums and screaming toddlers-but strangely enough it was this particular place that I came up with one of my things I am grateful for....but more of that in a bit.
Once home, I was greeted by my two beautiful puppies and incapacitated cat....oh and of course my loving husband. All of which I was glad to see. I gave them cuddles in turn and am now feeling much better. So, rather than dwell on what was a pretty ordinary day-only because of my bleak attitude, I though I would shine the light on the 3 good things from today:
1.When at aforementioned grocery store, I overheard a conversation between a mother and daughter (who would have been 18 at best) with a screaming toddler in tow. They were furiously tapping away on their phones-curious, I snuck a glance to realise that they were adding up the cost of the contents in their trolley to see if they could afford it all or not...granted much of the items weren't exactly what you call the "bare essentials", but there were plenty of items in there that I would struggle to live without. I am grateful today for the fact that I can go to the grocery store and buy pretty much whatever I need/want without really paying too much attention to the cost. Whilst I do have a weekly budget I stick to, it isn't the absolute end of the world if I slightly exceed that in a week.
2. I am thankful for the beautiful country we live in. The natural wonder of this place is amazing. Really. Lord of the Rings...ever seen it? I literally live in Hobbiton-really I am not kidding! (I even have the hairy feet)
3. I am thankful for the kindness of friends. My husband was talking to a few of his friends about our struggles today and they had such kind words and offers on how they could possibly help.(er ok that does sound strange, however one of our friends Dads is a Fertility Specialist doing research now-and all theses friends are actually doctors) It really is very touching knowing that there are people around us that are aware of our plight and thinking/praying for us.
So that wraps it up for tonight. Here's hoping that tomorrow brings much more joy and wonder to us all.
