Well,talk about a surprise.

I went to see my counselor today for help and advice in dealing with this break up, getting over it, and moving on (as all of my friends have been telling me to do.)

As I suspected all along, there really ARE different "rules" for dealing with this, when it involves a BP person.

And, she knows of what she speaks - I did not know this until today that she has a son with bipolar, again, kind of eerily coincidental, since I have been seeing her for 3 or 4 years now, and never knew this.

Anyway we walked thru talking about the whole 8 month relationship, and how good it was. It was heartening to know that she could predict reactions he had to things I said or things that happened, and explain his thinking behind some of his reactions to things I said that led to "bickering".

She did not berate me for trying to contact his parents after his phone call Friday night either.

Friends have told me:
"to them, you are just another girl in their son's life"
"your right to speak with them ended when he said "it's over""
"now they think you are crazy"

(I did feel foolish thinking he was his father when the phone was answered at his parent's house by HIM on Sunday!)

And of course being told by him "Do NOT call my parents again, they support my decision, it isn't fair to put them in the middle", when the intent of my phone call in the first place was NOT to get them to intervene on my behalf to get him to change his mind!

Instead of walking out of her office with red swollen eyes and feeling like a fool, I came out instead with the feeling that all in fact may not be lost, and there is hope to get back with him at some point.
