Soul Food No, not the Southern cuisine, for that food does not nourish the soul. This is a reminder of the food that truly satisfies each and every one of our souls. First, we need to review the affect on our being when our souls are not fed the proper food. Our being is made up of a body, a mind and a soul. Each of these need to be in balance in order for us to lead a successful life, leading to a great reward. If these are out of balance, we go through difficult struggles in life. If we feed our soul with the ‘junk’ food of this earth, it will NEVER be satisfied and will always hunger and thirst for more. We see people’s souls consuming earthly ‘junk’ food everywhere around us. We see some of its effects on women obsessed with their image (looks, body, weight, clothes, hair styles, etc). And men obsess about women, money, success, power, control, etc. Both obsess about material things and trying to stay youthful. Both are led to believe that Love and Money will fulfill/save them and thereby bring their souls happiness. Both men and women struggle with consuming excessive amounts of earthly food, drink and even drugs, trying to satisfy the soul, all to no avail. Some seek higher levels of earthly education/knowledge, the mind never getting satisfied with what it learns. These obsessions can turn into conditions/disorders that we see so common now. For women, this can result in eating and obsessive disorders, etc as their unsatisfied soul wants the body to be the perfect shape and look. They undergo cosmetic surgeries to achieve this goal of being forever young. For men, this can result in over-inflated egos, abuse/violence, crime, abusive power/control, etc. Both suffer from dependence on alcohol and drugs, etc. And then Satan, with his band of devils, whispers to the weakened, unsatisfied soul saying, “Do more and more of these earthly pleasures – for they will satisfy you.” This only worsens their overall health and state of being. Over time, disease overtakes the body and mind, leading to their demise. So what can bring an end to this vicious cycle of feeding our souls ‘junk’ food? We must renew/reaffirm our Faith in God, for the only food that satisfies/strengthens the soul is spiritual food. We must pray. We must give what we can in charity, as everything we earn is from our Creator. We must perform good acts. We must 'fast' in some fashion to detach the soul from craving earthly things. We must study and apply spiritual knowledge in our lives. I do not imply here that this religion or that religion is the only way. All religions promote the same basic articles of faith. I just encourage folks to find what is best for them and easiest for them to apply in their life, as long as it is in worshipping and serving the One who created them - and not worship things which God created - such as angels. It is best to surround ourselves with folks who can help and encourage us in feeding our souls with this nourishing food. Becoming involved in good activities, such as thru this website is very rewarding to our souls. It fills us from the inside out. And when we backslide, we repent and turn our hearts to God and ask to be forgiven. Feeding our souls with spiritual food is a daily activity, just as we feed our bodies daily with earthly food. When the soul is fed spiritual food, the body and mind become balanced, and we are in balance with the Creator and with His creation. Earthly obsessions are then neutralized and have no control over our being.
