Just want to let you all know that I'm now using ginger to help keep my diverclosis from flaring up into the -itis. I use crystallized ginger, and I prefer the kind from Royal Pacific -- their small medallions -- but any kind of ginger (pickled, raw root, or any other brand of crystallized) would do.
I eat two of the small pieces of ginger first thing in the morning, after every meal, and last thing at night.
I decided to try the ginger after reading a small study that showed it might have some benefit in keeping the bacteria in the intestine under control.
I also am concentrating on eating foods like yogurt that help keep the intestine healthy, as well as taking digestive enzymes and probiotics.
So far, so good -- I have had no pain or discomfort for several months now, and my system at the moment is functioning well.
So, if any of you suffering out there are so inclined, this is not a proven regimen but is easy enough to try, and it sure won't hurt you like drugs.

Hi Pam ... I\'m fairly new to this disease, having been diagnosed w/it one yr ago. I\'ve had 4 flair ups in one yr -- 2 of which happened in the last month. My Dr said if these meds don\'t do the trick, he wants me to have the surgery. I am 46 yrs old and totally freaked out when he told me this. Been a nervous wreck since. My problem is, I am allergic to both Penicillin & Levaquin -- I guess the 2 most popular antibiotics used for this. Just finished 2 wks of Bactrim and it seemed to work until today! Finally was feeling good, so started eating a little fiber and today I am in pain again w/a little constipation as well as diarhea. Almost afraid to call my Dr cause he\'ll tell me to go to the ER .... again! It\'s weird, I was so healthy up until one yr ago. Now I\'m fearing this surgery and having anxiety attacks occasionally. I am debating on buying this supplement called Digestinol .. have you heard of it? Suppposedly it\'s said known to substantially help with divert. Cost is $159 for one month\'s supply. (www.digestinol.com). Well, thanks again for posting your thoughts. ~~~~Barry
