vacation

Sitting on the patio, sunshine, warm, drinking coffee and onto my second book.  We should have made our trip longer.  What were we thinking? It's okay ~ enjoying the moment right now and loving it!
After recommending the book "Stay Close" to many people I finally bought the book myself and now I'm reading it.  And since I've just started it ~ I can only say that what I've read so far is (like most parents of addicts would say) that this book is very relatable.  Unlike similar books I've read, however, I'm reading this "after the fact".  In other words, I've read books like this in the beginning of our "crap" and in the middle of it ~ and very anxiously.  The previous books were very disturbing to me because their stories brought out the angst and the stress and helplessness I felt. That said ~ during that time I felt I was gaining knowledge and it helped me to see that I wasn't alone.
Now I'm mentally and physically healthier, spiritually stronger, more knowledgeable about addiction and how to respond to it ~ I am not anxious reading this book like I was reading the others ~ despite the fact that my situation with my sons isn't "after the fact".  They are still using.  They are still struggling.  And I pray for them everyday and still hope.
I also hope to get the messages out to more parents (campaign) about teen drug use.  Everyone talks about denial.  While it's true parents don't want to believe that their child could be involved with drugs ~ I question this: How can one deny something they know nothing about?  I think ignorance is a better word or it should be used synonymously with denial.  This was a point I made at the opiate convention and will again if my travel awards are accepted.  God willing.........
