YES!!!!!!!

I can't believe it!  Our son J came home yesterday after seeing his new doctor ~ a psychiatrist specializing in both mental health and addictions ~ and told me that he's going to be starting outpatient treatment for his drinking next Monday!  A five day 3 hour program for a month!  I've dropped only a few hints that this is what he might want to consider but it's this doctor who was able to do it.  *Of course - J had to be open about it.
J's counselor has been great seeing him through things but I wasn't comfortable with the psych doctor suggestions he gave him.  The one doctor he suggested to him was the same one he gave us a few years ago for T-Man (when he was an adolescent) and within 10 minutes the doctor had T diagnosed as bipolar!  What?  I know my son and I knew enough about bipolar to know he didn't have it.   I also know a good doctor would not prescribe a mood stabilizer without spending more time making sure it is bipolar.  In fact, T-Man wasn't even depressed.  Gave that excuse to the judge to wiggle out of having to explain poor grades while on probation.  I didn't mind T being on Wellbutrin, however, because it was supposed to help elevate nicotine cravings.
Anyway, I actually found the doctor through J's former adolescent psych doctor.  Luckily I still have his email address and contacted him ~ hoping he could give us a name.  The new doctor is young and "enthusiastic" and J likes him.  Me too.  I am so glad J took my suggestion instead of the other.
