calm
Things are pretty calm around here. The best ever since about 6 years ago. Between our middle son's depression, our youngest son's drama with drugs, the discovery of middle son's usage etc - never thought things would get better around here. Yes - both boys are still at it but it's hard to detect.
Today I received a call from a crying mom. She saw our presentation last month. We didn't have any personal information in the newspaper article we had to advertise it so she called one of the panel members whose name was listed in the paper. He in turn contacted me to see if it was alright for him to give this mom my information. Of course, I said yes. Thankfully, I'm in a very good place right now because I don't think I could help someone else as effectively without this strength. My sister unloaded on me ~ crying and tired of her husband's abuse. He doesn't physically harm her but his behavior is pretty awful. I suggested she try Al Anon again. She went when she discovered that her oldest had a problem. Her husband is a child of an alcoholic which may explain some of his bad behavior. All I know is that she tolerated, tip-toed, blamed herself, lost confidence because of him but now that she knows it's not her but him ~ she can't stand him anymore. She also said that she feels pretty low right now. My beautiful (not exaggerating on that one), once confident, very talented, sister is having a bit of a time. She is wishing she could leave him but can't leave because of her kids. She doesn't want to disrupt their lives in all of this. Plus, even though she has a good job, it's fairly new and her husband destroyed her credit rating. He had a huge spending problem so even though they live in a huge, beautifully decorated home, they are barely living from pay check to pay check. I hope she goes to Al Anon. I can't listen to her but she needs to focus on changing herself to make life a lot more bearable.
