why?
I should know better by now, not to get all worked up over something I have no control over. I am upset that I allowed T to play soccer last night because the game was at 9:30 (which I did have control over - whether he played or not). By the time he got home it was past 10:30 and I know what it's like playing so late in the evening. I know I get a burst of energy after my games and, therefore, it's difficult to settle down and go to sleep. So, needless to say, he isn't "feeling well" this morning. I haven't called attendance, yet. And I don't know what to do ..... since I let him play .....I am partially responsible.....so do I call in an excuse for him? He says he has a pounding headache. I do believe that he does, but I told him he needs to go to school anyway. I did get angry with him because I see the pattern all over again. Brand new semester.....missing classes...falling behind. I know I should let this go -- this is his problem but I feel somewhat to blame... Okay - talked to T - had a heart to heart. He went to school. I know I am tryng to control this situation and it is affecting both him and me, negatively. I must let go and let him make his own choices and if there are consequences (like "chilling" with the wrong group of kids OR not following through on hmwk or blowing off his tutor) then he is the one who has to deal with it. I have to keep reminding myself of that. Generally, he is doing quite well - and I am grateful for that. I am.

Step back, the idea and decision to play soccer is his. If he wants to play then he has to deal with it in the AM -- no excuses. Lots of kids make these choices. Try to let the natural consequences play out -- if soccer that late is not a good idea for him, I think he needs to decide that ....It seems to me that the battle worth fighting is the AM --- get to school unless you are going to the hospital. Remind him it was his choice to play.........and the next time he asks, think about how you will feel in the AM , is it worth it? OK, my 2 cents and the point is I do NOT think you should feel that you have contributed to the headache/not going to school.....making good choices and getting priorities straight is all part of the growing up process......Glad you had the heart to heart and he went to school!!!!! Hang in there and take care!
