One Day At A Time

Yesterday went from bad to worse - after I received a call from T's old, "new" guidance counselor (he's back from sick leave).  I had put in a call to the other guy on Friday asking him how I would approach the principal regarding T dropping his first class since there is no way he could pass it.  Getting him up in the morning has been the greatest struggle.  Well, the answer was no, he's not allowed to.  I broke down crying right at the photographer's office (I was half-heartily picking out T's senior pictures) when he called.  Poor guy - first day back and I am complaining to him.  So -- what do I do then?  I put a call into the principal's office.  And did he call back?  No.  He is terrible about that.  I left a message telling him I had a quick question.  I was actually going to ask him how this helps our situation.  We have been so stressed out and T is struggling and..... today........I decided that I must let it go.  The school (actually the asst. principal) has been very patient and I suppose it's about time they lay down the rules.  They are extremely rule oriented and run a tight ship but, because of T's problem and the fact that he has an I.E.P, they must be careful on how they handle things, legally.  Perhaps by allowing T to drop the first class would have allowed him to "win".  Perhaps dropping it would be a form of enabling.  Whatever the case, T went to his first class.  It had to have taken a whole lot of courage being that he hasn't been there in a very long time.    Hubby had a long talk with T last night.  He took him out for something to eat.  Guess T came home with some hope after their discussion.  Hubby told him that only he can turn this around by doing what he's supposed to be doing.  I don't know if it's too late to stop the process regarding treatment but I am not going to worry about it.  Hubby is dead set about T NOT going to the 90 day treatment center.  Me?  I don't know anymore what the answer is or if we would even have a say.  On one hand - something is going on with T - on the other hand....maybe he can straighten himself up.  One more theory is maybe he's gotten away with so much on a regular basis that it's become habit. I do think, however, he might be working things until this passes and then he'll go back to breaking rules.  He did manage to go to school - to his first class, too.  A bit late but he went!    I also did put a call into T's counselor but haven't heard from him, yet.  Not even sure what to say to him.  Perhaps I can find out if he was able to see if T (just by that short visit) whether he has depression.  Maybe if he can't, he can give me some feedback and I can update him on the latest.  It's too bad his appt. is so far away.  T made it at the end of the school day a few weeks from now.  NOW he doesn't want to miss school. Waiting to hear form the treatment center.  I put call into them to set up a tour.  T is supposed to go for an assessment and maybe he will after Alan talks to him today at school.  I doubt it but it's wishful thinking....
