why?.
One day at a time.......one of the motto's of AA -- so true. Now today and last night T was "normal" - even came home early - before curfew. Maybe the death of his friend made he reevaluate his life and where he could be headed if he doesn't stay the course? His friend died in a police car chase (the news about the details emerged yesterday). The friend was coming back from a concert all by himself (he had been drinking) and was pulled over by police because of his erratic driving. As the officer approached his car he could smell alcohol and apparently said something to the kid. The kid took off - and from there he traveled through 2 other towns - more police chases (going over 100 mph) - ending in fiery crash. Why? So very sad. This boy's family has been through more tragedy than they deserve. The boy's sister had cancer as a little one, his dad died from cancer when the boy was only 12, and now I find out his mom is an alcoholic. Makes one rethink and really count one's blessings. T is at the funeral right now. He has taken this death very hard. As tragic as this is...I do believe something good will come out of this......perhaps a reminder to his friends what the consequences could be when risky behavior is involved. Haven't heard a word from second born but last night we were up at a reception at the art gallery I teach at and ran into two parents whose kids are with our son! One parent encouraged our son to call. J promised but didn't. Then the other parent of another boy is going there today. This parent knows J pretty well (his former scout leader) and will talk to him. Maybe he'll be able to get him to give us a ring. I learned last night that all the kids are going to one of their friend's family farmer. Maybe being out in the fresh air will clear his head a bit? Wishful thinking....... Wrapping up the packet I started last spring. All along I have been waiting patiently for the juvenile detective to give his portion of the packet to me. He is busy, I understand that - believe you me.. So I e-mail him and tell him that I'm going to move forward with what I have and then anything he might want to add will be placed in the pocket of the packet with the drug information. He responds and says he is going out of town but willl have it done by Aug 22nd. Funny he did that last time. He was going out of town (conference) but will have his part done by July 6th! He picks these random dates but then doesn't follow through on them. When T was in "up to his eyeballs" last summer with all the arrests and such, I was frustrated with this guy because he was always leading me on about this and that, regarding T's situtation, and then he wouldn't not follow through on them and then .... would leave for another conference. I got over it though and accepted that I couldn't depend on him and his word, completely. He means well and is a very nice person - so it's just a minor "thing" - the packet will get done. And I appreciate his help. Nuff said..........
