Things are stilll going well. I was able to attend the parent support group last night. Shame on me for convincing my middle son, 18, to find someone else to work in his place. Here he is working part-time as a dish washer - needs the hours - needs a full-time job (on his case for not looking enough) and then I ask him not to work so that I could go to group. Someone has to be home to stay with T. I really needed to go to this group and decided that this was a good decision. With my husband on his way to his golf trip and me stuck in the house sitting T and his girlfriend, I really needed to escape. No, the girlfriend didn't stay. I'm glad I went. This group is unique. It isn't al anon (I go to that also) - but a small group of parents who share their problems and get feedback and support. What I really like about it is that there are parents who've been dealing with this for awhile and newcomers who learn from them and how to handle certain situations. Even the long timers get feedback because some of them are still dealing with the problem. I've learned so much and feel so connected to this group. In fact, I told them that my son's high school announced that there will be a parent information meeting to address the drug issue this coming Monday. It was announced asking parents one- if they are concerned about the heroin problem at another community school, two- about drugs in general, and three about the problem of kids hanging out at our local town park. Well......we've been up to our eyeballs in all of this stuff : one - I was behind the drug bust at the other school, two - we have a drug problem with our son, and three - he's has been arrested at this park. So.......my first thought was to stay away from this meeting entirely. My husband saw the announcement and said he wanted to go. I thought - how can you go? Don't you already know what the problelm is? Aren't you embarrassed? They know we know all about it. Then I thought......no.....as embarrassed as I am....I am curious how the juvenile detective is going to address this. I am also anxious also to hear how the parents are going to respond to this. I can just hear the comments "What kind of parents would allow..... And then I thought.....who cares? Well........I do to a point. I care because if the negative comments surface, it shows the lack of support, compassion, and the lack of knowledge about this disease by some parents at the school. All I know is that in previous years I was one of those parents. I even thought....not my child. All I can say is I am so glad that my friends at my support group offered to go to this meeting even though they don't have anyone at the school. If something that needs to be said .....perhaps I will ask them to speak up on my behalf. I have to protect my son's privacy even though there are some who know about him so I cannot do that. Ironically, one of my new friends at this group I belong to spoke to this very school about drugs last year. He's our county drug "leader" - I'm glad he's attending. Well........today the drug counselor that is assessing our son will be coming to our house today. He's finishing up the assessment. I don't know, however, when we will know what the recommendation will be and what to expect. If anything.......I am learning patience. It's a tough lesson - this whole thing....but it's a good one - even though it's painful at times.Oh.......and then this morning. What do I see on my son's neck in plain sight? A hicky! He and his gf are in the same room as me for goodness sake. I did briefly go upstairs so I'm sure that was when T got his badge of honor. I didn't notice it last night so I don't know if she has one, too. All I know is that they are counting the days down for when he's released from house arrest. We need to talk......again....... Anyway........time to get on the treadmill and say my daily prayers!
