I've been told over the years, by some people, that I tend to take a Polly Anna approach to life.  It's true.  Things can be so bad...yet...when I see a glimmer of hope...my outlook about a situation can turn on a dime and life is great - tihings are fine.  It's as if the previous event didn't even happen when this occurs.  It is the way I cope, I suppose.  Even though, intellectually, I know that T was going to use again, emotionally...I believed things were going to turn around.  He was so convincing and I do believe that he believed but....he just couldn't stay away.  I know he used because his eyes were glassy and he was in a mood.  I didnt' say anything to him then because that wasn't the best time to do it.  When he went to bed, just to make sure, I checked his IM.  He indicated to his friends that he got so high - and that was because he was extremely depressed and needed some relief.  Fortunately, his best friend and his girlfriend both told him that he needs to stay straight.  That was comforting coming from his peers, and close peers - no less.   I know I have no control over this situation.  I am glad I have some outlet and support.  I am fortunate.

Hi, PM me when you feel like it. I\'m sorry that T used. I think the underlying cause needs immediate treatment (depression). I\'ve never been the pollyana type which is good and bad. I have a friend like you & her pollyana attitude helped her beat breast cancer & an abusive husband. I think it\'s the best way to be.

You need to find out what drugs he got high on. Think back when you were a kid (I can). Pot and booze did\'nt put me in a (mood). Like I mentioned before you journal entries sound exactly like my son\'s behavior. Anyways T wants to quit he just needs the tools to help him. Father Flannagan (Boys Town) once said,\"there\'s no such thing as a bad boy\"

Joemnm is right... you need to find out what drugs he is using. You can go on the web and order a 10-panel test. These are the same tests they use in rehab centers. It sounds as though your son is self-medicating. This is the reason 80% of addicts use. They can\'t, don\'t, won\'t deal with their feelings, emotions and situations which come up in life. They generally have no coping skills.
It\'s good news that the want\'s to quit, he does need the right tools and the right environment.
